Hoosier Park Harness Pick of the Week for October 9

A field of 10 will pace one-mile at Hoosier Park on Wednesday chasing a $5,500 purse in the 10TH Race. The well-matched field will be competing in a non-winners event that offers a $20,000 guaranteed trifecta pool.

#3 TEN HIGH (12-1) paced a swift 1:54 ⅕ mile when runner-up at big odds most recently facing off with similar. The Illinois-bred has been mostly consistent in hitting the board in seven of his last 10 races, and the Tom Simmons trainee looks to have very good value in this spot. The sophomore son of New Ten Eom lands in a very winnable contest with Brandon Bates in the sulky once again.

#8 LAKESIDE BUDDY (6-1) exits the same race as the aforementioned and finished sixth following a poor break. The Jace Sundeen pupil is lightly raced with obvious room for improvement, and his win three back on the surface was a nice one when he recorded a :27 final quarter-mile. The gelded bay has raced into shape and may be the one to hold off inside the final yards with Michael Oosting in the controls.

#1 CLOSE TO THE EDGE (20-1) could offer great value for the trifecta from the rail. Trained by Leander Schwartz, the sophomore gelding exits a swift heat when finishing ninth but will move forward today in a softer spot. The bay has been facing better and is racing back into shape following gaps prior to his last two assignments. A longshot contender to consider with Lewayne Miller, who could put him on the front end early.

# 6 FAST TRACK (5-1) was taken out of his game when sent to the lead and tiring late as the favorite last time. The Michigan-bred does his best work rallying from off the pace and the expected switch in tactics makes him very intriguing. Andy Shelter stays aboard to pilot the gelding, who could run them all down in the lane with a well-timed ride for conditioner Matt Rheinheimer.
