Hoosier Park Harness Pick of the Week for September 25

The 8th Race at Hoosier Park on Wednesday is a one-mile pacing event for fillies and mares. The non-winners of four/optional claiming event boasts a $6,900 purse and attracted a field of eight.

HELEN'S GIRL (#7) (7-2) has lately been facing the toughest foes of any in the field for conditioner William Crone. The three-year-old daughter of Straight Shooting owns just a single tally in 2019 from 11 starts, but the Florida-bred lass fits well in the cast despite drawing near the outside. The sophomore gets a driver change to Sam Widger today, and the filly might be involved early with the class relief.

VORTEX IVY (#6) (5-1) has won or placed in seven of 13 appearances this season, and she will improve off of her latest showing when she failed to fire in the stretch after displaying early pace. The Indiana-bred bay has run well in six of eight races coming in and possesses the early speed to be forwardly placed from the start at a fair price. Trained by Matt Rhenheimer, the three-year-old daughter of Jereme's Jet retains the services of 18% driver Trace Tetrick.

MISS QUALITY (#2) (3-1) has finished in the top three in 13 of 17 2019 assignments. The Walter Haynes Jr. pupil gets a good starting slot today after being wide in four of her last five affairs, and the consistent daughter of Western Quality is an exotics must-use in the field. The Indiana-bred would be of little surprise with Joey Putnam in the sulky.

Longshot SKYWAY ATHENA (#5) (10-1) is in awful current form but could wake up in a field which lacks a standout. The Rockin Image four-year-old has failed to hit the board in four straight while facing better, but she could turn things around in this contest for conditioner Don Eash. Bred in the Hoosier State, Skyway Athena was a nine-time winner in 2018 and has displayed a strong turn of foot on her best days. Her trainer will be in the bike and rallying the lass from well back in the early stages.
