Hoosier Park Race of the Week for April 24, 2019
The 5TH Race at Hoosier Park on Wednesday is a non-winners of two trotting event that attracted a field of nine. The cast will travel one-mile in what appears to be a fairly wide-open betting race.
GOLDEN WHEEL (#2) (7-2) has put in a pair of sharp efforts in 2019 off the long layoff and looks like the one to beat for me. The gelded sophomore was second in his comeback, and he followed that up with a half-length tally here last week against a bit softer. The Mervin Schmucker pupil has the ability to stay in range early, combined with a nice closing kick in the stretch. Andy Shelter will drive.
QUEEN KONG (#4) (8-1) will make her third start of the season in here and has upset potential in the field. Trained by David Avenatti, the five-year-old mare showed improvement last time when sixth in a swiftly run race. The bay daughter of Psychic Spirit lacks consistency, but she lands in a good spot to put her best foot forward at a price in this test. Wyatt Avenatti will be in the sulky.
HOORAY FOR JESSIE (#1) (9-2) has steadily progressed at the meeting, checking in with a nice third-place finish at this level most recently. A winner here two back, the four-year-old daughter of Chip Chip Hooray draws the rail here and should be closer to the early pace in a field without a slew of early foot. The Indiana-bred retains 17-percent driver Sam Widger, and she figures to be in the mix throughout this affair.
Golden Wheel will track the pace from second or third in the early stages. He will get first run on the aforementioned duo turning for home and hold on late for the victory.
