Horses of interest in Wednesday's $119,514 Late Pick 5 carryover at Churchill Downs

For the second time in less than a week, a healthy Late Pick 5 carryover awaits Churchill Downs players when racing resumes on Wednesday.
Wednesday's carryover of more than $119,000 is even bigger than the one bettors took advantage of this past Saturday. An $85,000 carryover for that card attracted an additional $792,000-plus in wagers.
Not only is the 50-cent Pick 5 one of the best wagers with its 15 percent takeout, but the addition of the carryover money effectively reduces the takeout further as more is returned to bettors.
Forecasted dry conditions should enable both scheduled turf races in the sequence to remain on the grass. The sequence is races 6-10, with the first Pick 5 event scheduled for 3:36 p.m. (EST). The entire 10-race card commences at 1 p.m.
Here are a couple horses I'll be looking to use in the Late Pick 5:
Race 8
What #6 CARTE BLANCHE (6-1) might concede in relative class he makes up for in proficiency over this one-turn mile course. All four tries over Churchill's main track have been at a mile, and he owns two wins, a second, and a third, with the second-place effort a photo-finish loss in the slop.
Although he has a claiming/starter allowance past and was ineffective at this level last time at Keeneland, expect him to perk back over this preferred track and trip. Note, too, that he was a solid third at these conditions here in June. He's worth including in a race where a couple of the leading contenders are returning from extended absences.
Race 10
The two top choices on the morning line in this turf maiden have already lost seven and nine times, respectively. Either one could produce a belated breakthrough here, but a more interesting contender is #5 HYPNOTIST (5-1), who displayed noteworthy improvement stretching out around two turns at Keeneland last month.
Hypnotist has worked four times since that runner-up effort, and picks up Corey Lanerie here. Despite the late start to his career, he has the pedigree to turn into a useful racehorse as he's by Malibu Moon and out of Special Duty, who captured both the English (G1) and French 1000 Guineas (G1).
