How to bet Belmont's $91,299 mandatory-payout Pick 6 carryover
Sunday is closing day of the Belmont Park fall meet, and bettors should know there’s a $91,299 Pick 6 carryover slated for mandatory dispersal.
Constructing a winning ticket for the $1 wager won’t be easy, but we’ll give it a go on a $96 budget. Here’s a race-by-race look at how we’ll play the sequence:
Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (one mile)
Trainer Todd Pletcher has gone 5-for-14 (36%) debuting juveniles at Belmont this fall, so we have to respect the chances of #4 Beyond Best (5-2), who is bred to relish this one-mile trip. But we’ll also consider #7 Gunton Roe (7-2), a son of hot young sire Gun Runner. Gunton Roe hails from the barn of Christophe Clement, a 21% winner with horses debuting over one mile or farther.

Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (1 1/16 miles on turf)
#1 Split Then Double (3-1) has cracked the trifecta in all three of her turf starts on the New York circuit and is a logical contender for victory. But her unraced stablemate #8 Investmentstrategy (7-2) also rates a strong chance under three-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz.
Race 7: $25,000 Claiming (one mile)
#3 Dark Storm (5-1) and #4 Daddy Knows (2-1) have the form lines and Brisnet Speed ratings to vie for victory at the $25,000 claiming level. We’ll try to get by using only these two.
Race 8: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (seven furlongs on turf)
#11 Turn of Events (5-1) has won two straight over this course, most recently wiring an allowance by 2 3/4 lengths. #1 Buy Land and See (4-1), exiting a pair of graded stakes at Belmont, is another logical threat.
Race 9: Nashua S. (G3, one mile)
#1 Rockefeller (7-5) exits a fourth-place finisher in a tough renewal of the American Pharoah S. (G1). The top two finishers returned to run 1-2 in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), so Rockefeller figures to be formidable while facing easier company. #2 Judge Davis (3-1), a maiden winner racing 1 1/16 miles at Belmont, is the only horse we’ll use as backup.
Race 10: Maiden Special Weight (1 1/16 miles on turf)
#5 Street Vendor (9-2) and #6 Paratus (5-1) exit narrow defeats over this course, distance, and class level. But #7 Smokin’ T (12-1) is eligible to give them a fight after finishing third in a seven-furlong turf dash at Belmont, a race won by next-out Futurity S. (G3) hero Slipstream.
$1 Pick 6: 4,7 with 1,8 with 3,4 with 1,11 with 1,2 with 5,6,7 ($96)
Good luck!
