How to bet the 2019 Jeff Ruby Steaks

The $200,000 Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) will be run on Saturday at Turfway Park going 1 1/8 miles on the synthetic track. As part of the Road to the Kentucky Derby (G1), it rewards the winner with 20 points, the second-place finisher with eight points, the third-place finisher with fourt points and the fourth-place finisher with two points. DYNAMIC RACER (#1) (15-1) broke his maiden second time out on turf, then did nothing in two allowance races on the dirt to close out 2018 at Keeneland and Churchill Downs. He made his Turfway Park debut a winning one when he pressed the pace every step on January 3, and came back with a good second in the February 15 John Battaglia Stakes. The dark bay son of Run Away and Hide shows another bullet workout over the surface and draws the rail. MOONSTER (#2) (20-1) is a Calumet Farm colorbearer and you have to be careful with some of them since they seem to enter every stakes race. This colt broke his maiden second time out but has been beaten a tottal of 69 lengths in his last five starts. FIVE STAR GENERAL (#3) (6-1) added blinkers second time out and broke his maiden by 4 1/4 lengths in an off-the-turf event before returning to take Central Park Stakes at Aqueduct to close his juvneile campaign on November 22. The Distorted Humor colt failed badly in the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) last out so, instead of being in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2), he shows up here for trainer Arnaud Delacour. DABO (#4) (10-1) broke his maiden first time out by a neck on the synthetic surface at Arlington Park, then did nothing on turf and dirt. He shipped to Turfway Park last out and rallied for third in the John Battaglia Stakes but will have to improve greatly to have a shot in here. BAYTOWN JIMBO (#5) (20-1) has had three straight starts on synthetic tracks and none of them were inspiring enough to think he has a chance in this spot. SKYWIRE (#6) (3-1) is two-for-two thus far, rallying from off the pace to win going away at six furlongs on the Tapeta at Woodbine in his debut. The bay son of Afleet Alex then shipped to Gulfstream Park when his next race was washed off the turf and he won by six lengths on a sloppy, sealed track after a very rough start. COUNTER OFFER (#7) (10-1) broke his maiden on the turf in his fourth try, then came back two starts later with a second on the dirt at Tampa Bay Downs. He tries synthetic for the first time but this is not a strength for trainer Ian Wilkes. TWELFTHOFNEVERLAND (#8) (12-1) added blinkers three starts back and beat maiden $50,000 claimers on November 29 before returning in early January to take his three-year-old bow in the mud at Aqueduct. Last out against decent allowance foes, the Istan colt missed by a nose and now tries synthetic for the first time. With the blinkers, he merits a longshot chance. CURLIN GREY (#9) (10-1) broke his maiden in his sixth career start before running third most recently in an allowance event at Gulfstream Park. The gray son of Curlin makes his synthetic track debut for trainer Ken McPeek, who wins 19 percent with this surface switch. SOMELIKEITHOTBROWN (#10) (8-5) broke his maiden by eight easy lengths when making his turf debut at Saratoga where the starting gate was placed in the wrong position. He came back with a pair of seconds in the With Anticipation Stakes (G3) and Pilgrim Stakes (G3) before running a terrific third, beaten only three parts of a length, in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) over a slippery turf course. The bay son of Big Brown made his synthetic debut at Turfway, romping in the John Battaglia Stakes at 11-10, and could be lower odds in this one. SPEED APP (#11) (30-1) is a second Calumet Farm runner in this race and also still a maiden. The D. Wayne Lukas pupil breaks from post 11 and has no shot in here. ANALYSIS Somelikeithotbrown lays over this field and will be hard to beat.
