June 28th, 2019

Seven fillies and mares will navigate seven furlongs on the main surface at Gulfstream Park in the $250,000 Princess Rooney S. (G2) on Saturday. Defending champ Stormy Embrace will square off with some up-and-coming fillies in a tough assignment. RAZORBACK LADY (#1) (8-1) -- Grade 2-placed filly has yet to break through in the stakes ranks but has come close on four separate occasions. Consistently good daughter of Overdriven has speed and the rail, and she figures to improve today making a second start off the layoff. Julien Leparoux has the assignment. TRENCHTOWN CAT (#2) (6-1) -- Dual stakes queen has shown her versatility with major wins on both turf and dirt. Rohan Crichton charge earned a lifetime best BRIS Speed figure in her dirt debut and could be any kind in the affair. The Discreet Cat filly will be forwardly placed beneath Miguel Vasquez. ROYAL ASSCHER (#3) (12-1) -- Tale of Ekati mare has romped in two straight since being claimed in February. Five-year-old takes a huge class hike, but she has never been better and could be dangerous with another forward move. Speedy sort will be one of many vying for an edge in the early going. SAGUARO ROW (#4) (5-2) -- Michael Stidham trainee is unbeaten from a pair of solid allowance wins in 2019. Four-year-old daughter of Union Rags drilled a bullet half-mile most recently and should benefit from an abundance of pace being in the field. Albin Jimenez will try to run them down late. REAGAN’S ROSE (#5) (30-1) -- Florida-bred four-year-old has been unplaced in three straight while facing lesser, and she would need a major form reversal to contend for a placing in the field. With Distinction filly has never proven to be capable of beating this kind and would be a big surprise today. STORMY EMBRACE (#6) (4-5) -- Defending champ tuned up for her title defense with a 10-length stakes drubbing on the course off the bench. Kathleen O’Connell pupil thrives at Gulfstream Park and is the obvious one to beat with Wilmer Garcia in the stirrups. Circular Quay mare will always be prominent. WEEKEND MISCHIEF (#7) (15-1) -- Four-year-old by Into Mischief is a four-time winner at Gulfstream Park who cuts back in distance after a failed stakes run going long. Florida-bred has not hit the board in her last eight stakes attempts, and she will need a career-topping performance to make any impact from off the pace. ANALYSIS The trio of inside runners will all show speed from the gate, and they will be tracked by favored Stormy Embrace throughout. Saguaro Row will be in the next flight waiting to pounce on the potential speed duel.
