How to bet the Breeders Stakes

October 22nd, 2020

Two-time classic winner #8 Mighty Heart (1-1) will aim to etch his name in the history books at Woodbine on Saturday when he goes postward as the one to beat in the $400,000 Breeders’ S. The third leg of the Canadian Triple Crown attracted a field of 12 in total, but all eyes will be on the surging son of Dramedy following his impressive tallies in the Queen’s Plate S. and Prince of Wales S.

Mighty Heart, who is conditioned by Josie Carroll, is three-for-four this season and has shown his versatility in winning in fine fashion on both Tapeta and dirt surfaces. The Larry Cordes’ homebred has come out victorious when leading from the break, as well as when rallying from off the tempo as he did at Fort Erie most recently. I will key the Ontario-bred on top in most of my wagers in the 1 1/2-mile turf feature.

#4 Olliemyboy (12-1) will be a key piece to my vertical exotics for Sid Attard. Union Rags colt has a pair of 10-furlong races under his belt on the main strip, and he figures to improve with the move to the green on Saturday. One-run closer has two turf-winning siblings from three to have run, and distance will not be an issue for the dark bay. Patrick Husbands riding adds to the appeal.

Recent maiden graduate #5 English Conqueror (12-1) also has some intrigue at a price, and I will dabble with this colt in the lower rungs of the verticals. Gelded chestnut has shown steady improvement in 2020, especially in his last two tries, and I expect him to take a another step forward stretching out to 1 1/2 miles in the Breeders’ S. The Darwin Banach pupil shows a trio of excellent morning moves in advance of his stakes debut.
