How to bet the Delaware Oaks

July 3rd, 2020

Eight sophomore fillies will travel 1 1/16 miles on the main surface at Delaware Park in Saturday’s $300,000 Delaware Oaks (G3).

Delaware Oaks Analysis

The pace of the Delaware Oaks field will come from the inside, with #1 Comical, #2 Piece of My Heart, and #3 Princess Cadey all set to be in the mix early on.

Delaware Oaks Contenders

#1 COMICAL (5-2) -- Grade 3 heroine draws the rail for her local debut for Asmussen. Into Mischief filly is winless in seven straight, but she comes off a pair of fine tries including a runner-up showing in the Gardenia S. at Oaklawn Park most recently. Alex Cintron will guide the bay.

#2 PIECE OF MY HEART (2-1) -- Morning-line choice comes off a wire-to-wire victory in the Gardenia. Improving chestnut has bagged two races in succession overall, and she has shown versatility this season for Robertson. Flat Out filly will have Talamo on board.

#3 PRINCESS CADEY (10-1) -- Dialed In filly has shown marked improvement since being claimed by this outfit five back. Recent stakes winner has speed combined with a turn of foot, and she has never been better in preparation of her graded stakes bow. Angel Cruz rides.

#4 LONG POINT BEACH (15-1) -- Daughter of Golden Lad has been first or second in each of her four lifetime tries, and she gets a class test on this occasion for Gaudet. Dark bay ran her best in her route debut most recently, but she will need a major step forward to challenge inside the final furlong on Saturday.

#5 HOPEFUL GROWTH (10-1) -- Upset pick has impressed in each of her trio of lifetime outings for Margotta. Dark bay Tapiture lass was super impressive in dominating allowance foes at Tampa Bay Downs last time out when removing blinkers, and I think that she will be up to the task in her route and stakes bow in the Oaks. Tactical lass will get first run on the closing types turning for home.

#6 PROJECT WHISKEY (12-1) -- Stakes queen from the Reid barn has been dusted in her last pair and needs a form reversal to be considered for the win on Saturday. Tapizar filly smoked a bullet half-mile recently, and she has a lot of room for improvement second time out in 2020 as well.

#7 DREAM MARIE (4-1) -- Talented daughter of Graydar has faced some fine foes in the Sunshine State this campaign and has a class edge over a few in the affair. Williams charge didn’t pick up her feet much most recently, and I will let her beat me until she proves that she is back in form. Joe Bravo riding is encouraging, however.

#8 QUEEN BRIDGET (8-1) -- Chestnut from the barn of John Ortiz is winless from four assignments this season and makes the turf-to-dirt move in this affair. Kentucky-bred Verrazano filly has faced some fine foes in 2020, but she needs a forward move to make noise in the stretch under Tyler Baze.
