How to bet the First Lady Handicap at Ruidoso
An octet of fillies and mares will travel 6 panels in Sunday’s $50,000 First Lady H. at Ruidoso Downs.
First Lady Analysis
The early tempo is expected to be sharp in the First Lady. #4 Presley has posted some hefty Brisnet E1 and E2 Pace figures to date and could be the early leader. #1 Tap Into Beauty will be sent from the break, as will #5 Beautiful Thunder.
First Lady Contenders
#1 TAP INTO BEAUTY (6-1) -- Third-time starter comes back to the Fincher barn following a route attempt on the green at Santa Anita. Bay daughter of Congrats has speed and the rail, combined with a lot of room for improvement second time out in 2020. Luis Fuentes will be in the controls atop the win contender, and she gets top billing in an evenly matched field.
#2 FLYIN FALYNN (5-2) -- Tale of the Cat mare rallied to win this race last campaign and comes off a game allowance tally at Sunland Park for Zamora. 5-year-old smoked a bullet three-eighths to stay sharp for the First Lady, and she merits consideration from off the pace under Laviolette.
#3 SHANGHAI KEELY (9-2) -- Win contender has back class and seems poised for a positive effort in her second local appearance. Justin Evans pupil burned some money when second in a local allowance tilt most recently, but improvement is expected in this dash. Sophomore will try to defeat her elders with Jimmy Coates up.
#4 PRESLEY (12-1) -- Arkansas-bred is the likely pacesetter in the cast and has to get a look. Fleet Kantharos filly removes blinkers for her stakes try with open company, and she could be a danger at a price if she clears the field early on.
#5 BEAUTIFUL THUNDER (7-2) -- California import makes her debut for Gonzalez as an obvious win threat today. Broken Vow 3-year-old has never run on the dirt and also has to beat her elders, but she may be up to the task in her first try since January. Chestnut will be forwardly placed from the opening bell.
#6 SCARLET STREAK (8-1) -- Contender has won two of her last three and comes in off of a sneaky good allowance try on the oval. Roman Emperor mare was shuffled back early last out but still put in a strong late kick, and she intrigues with clear sailing on Sunday. Armando Romero has the call.
#7 ORNAMENTAL IRON (10-1) -- Valerio claim takes a big class hike from the $10,000 claiming ranks in her local debut. Flat Out mare has been first or second in 17-of-32 races lifetime, and she has a touch of back class to her, as well. Dark bay could be a key to the vertical exotics.
#8 LAKE TIME (5-1) -- Bart Hones charge brings fine form to the cast with six consecutive top 2 finishes. Multiple stakes placed Tapizar mare draws well outside and has the versatile running style that will ensure a good voyage. The bay would be no surprise under the guidance of Frank Reyes.
