Covfefe takes her maiden debut at Churchill Downs (c) Coady Photography

Eight two-year-old fillies will vie in Sunday’s $400,000 Frizette Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. The “Win & You’re In” Challenge series affair offers a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) berth to the victress.

BRUCIA LA TERRA (#1) (12-1) – Barclay Tagg trainee powered home in a debut score at Saratoga and posted a hefty 102 BRIS Late Pace number in the process. The El Padrino filly shows six morning drills to ready for today, with a bullet move two back. Dylan Davis rides.

JAYWALK (#2) (5-1) – Gray miss has won two straight, including a stakes tally at Delaware Park most recently. The Cross Traffic filly gets a class test in her route debut.

TAKE ME TO HARDOON (#3) (15-1) – Violence filly won smartly on debut over state-bred foes and stretches out while facing open company today. The $77,000 Fasig-Tipton New York-bred purchase needs a step forward to take this field down but could get a Grade 1 placing with improvement.

NONNA MADELINE (#4) (6-1) – Todd Pletcher pupil led late until tiring in the Spinaway (G1) last out. The Candy Ride filly might get overlooked some with John Velazquez on board.

GRACEFUL PRINCESS (#5) (3-1) – Ralph Nicks trainee ran to her pedigree when dominating at Saratoga first-time out. The Tapit filly out of Horse of the Year Havre de Grace could be any kind. Manny Franco gets off of another to ride her back.

COVFEFE (#6) (8-5) – Brad Cox trainee is the one to beat off of a sterling debut at Churchill Downs when backed to 1-2 odds. The Into Mischief filly earned a 102 BRIS Late Pace number, suggesting the added ground will be to her liking. Javier Castellano inherits the mount.

CASSIES DREAMER (#7) (10-1) – Spinaway third rallied from well back after getting a poor trip in her first off the claim. The daughter of Flatter will need another move forward today.

SUE’S FORTUNE (#8) (8-1) – Adirondack (G2) vixen draws outside and stretches out for Jeremiah Englehart. The daughter of Jump Start is a question mark at the distance, though.

ANALYSIS

The debut tally by Covfefe is hard to ignore even as she tries winners for the initial time. The $250,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase might be a really good one. Finding value underneath is my goal.
