How to bet the Great Lady M Stakes

July 3rd, 2020

A field of seven fillies and mares will go 6 1/2 furlongs in Saturday’s $200,000 Great Lady M (G2) at Los Alamitos.

Great Lady M Analysis

The pace will come from the inside contenders, with #2 Artistic Diva likely gaining a short edge from the break. #1 Bellafina and #3 Sneaking Out will be forcing an honest tempo from the opening bell.

Great Lady M Contenders

#1 BELLAFINA (4-5) -- Quality Road filly picked up her first victory in 13 months with a smart score in the Desert Stormer (G3) at Santa Anita last time out. 4-year-old morphs into a new animal in California and is the clear class of the field for Simon Callaghan. Kentucky-bred bay is a must use in all wagers with Flavien Prat riding.

#2 ARTISTIC DIVA (6-1) -- Stakes-winning speedster is lightly raced making her third appearance of 2020. 5-year-old Munnings mare was a sharp winner in her lone local outing, and she could be an upset contender if she clears the field early on. Bay shows fast recent morning moves and will have Victor Espinoza on board.

#3 SNEAKING OUT (4-1) -- Two-time stakes victress is not overly consistent, but she is dangerous on her best day. Hollendorfer pupil has been first or second in 8-of-10 lifetime showings, and she could sit a nice trip behind dueling leaders on the backside on Saturday. Martin Garcia will be in the stirrups.

#4 DONUT GIRL (30-1) -- Outsider has not hit the board in four straight at the optional claiming level, and she looks overmatched with most in this affair. I will look elsewhere for my wagers.

#5 HANG A STAR (6-1) -- Tapizar filly has taken it to a new level in her last pair, topped by a runner-up showing in the Desert Stormer (G3) last out. Ian Kruljac trainee has displayed a solid turn of foot most recently, and she could be moving best of all in the lane with Rispoli signed on.

#6 AMUSE (8-1) -- Interesting sort comes off a fine tally on the lawn going long for Richard Mandella. Dark bay mare has proven dirt form going one-turn, and she could be any kind in her second outing in more than 14 months. Drayden Van Dyke will pilot the Medaglia d’Oro 5-year-old.

#7 ZUSHA (8-1) -- Gary Mandella trainee was second in her lone showing over the oval in the Bayakoa (G3) in December. Kentucky-bred daughter of Congrats cuts back in trip and could challenge for a placing from off the pace on Saturday.
