How to bet the Hill Prince Stakes

October 16th, 2020

A total of nine 3-year-olds, with one being a main track-only entrant, will travel one mile on the Belmont Park turf in Sunday’s $150,000 Hill Prince (G2).

Hill Prince Analysis

The pace will be controlled by #1 Get Smokin. #3 Decorated Invader, #7 Buy Land and See, and #9 Assiduously, will each track the pace from the second flight.

Hill Prince Contenders

#1 GET SMOKIN (5-1) -- National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame (G2) runner-up has substantial early foot and gets a perfect draw on the rail. Tom Bush trainee tired in the lane going 1 3/16 miles in the Saratoga Derby most recently, but he will appreciate the cut back in distance in his return to Belmont. Javier Castellano takes the call.

#2 GLYNN COUNTRY (15-1) -- Maker charge was a sharp maiden winner at Kentucky Downs most recently and now jumps straight to the graded stakes ranks. Kitten’s Joy colt has shown improvement since being claimed two prior, but this might be a bit too ambitious at this stage of his development.

#3 DECORATED INVADER (1-1) -- Classy Clement trainee has been excellent this campaign with a 3-for-4 mark, including a dominant tally on the course in the Pennine Ridge (G2) three prior. Declaration of War colt has fine tactical speed to go with his superb turn of foot, and the cut back to one mile will benefit the colt as well. Joel Rosario will guide the formidable contender.

#4 BODECREAM (8-1) -- Saranac (G3) third makes his third outing since February and gives the look of an obvious top-three contender. Dark bay gelding from the Maker barn has trained well as of late, and he will be doing his best work from off the pace with Irad signed on.

#5 STARTING OVER (20-1) -- Longshot makes a first run off the Falcone claim after beating maiden claiming foes on the course off an 11-month absence. Liam’s Map gelding earned a big Brisnet Late Pace number in that tally, but he faces tons better on Sunday in a tough assignment. Dylan Davis will be in the stirrups.

#6 CHOCOLATE BAR (12-1) -- Cairo Prince colt has lacked consistency for Maker, and he would be a surprise coming off a poor showing at Pimlico.

#7 BUY LAND AND SEE (4-1) -- Gray son of Cairo Prince stretches back out following a turf sprint at Saratoga when an encouraging third. Steve Klesaris pupil bagged the Awad S. on the course last season, and he could peak in his third performance of 2020. Jose Lezcano will pilot the upset threat.

#8 MONEY MOVES (1-2) -- Pletcher trainee finished 13th in the Kentucky Derby (G1) but will be especially tough to upend if the race comes off the green. $975,000 juvenile purchase would be a single if the race moves to the main strip.

#9 ASSIDUOUSLY (8-1) -- Chad Brown pupil draws outside for his stakes debut. Bay colt led to late stretch before ultimately finishing third in a local allowance tilt with sophomores, and he will need a big step forward to be in the mix late against the top contenders in the cast.
