Let it Ride Stakes Analysis

Del Mar Derby (G2) third #6 Dominant Soul (8-1) will lead the cast early on for conditioner Paula Capestro. #7 Margot’s Boy (3-1),who was a head second in the Del Mar Derby, will track that one with intent from the break.

#3 Strongconstitution (4-1), who was second in the Bob Hope (G3) last season, and #10 Jammers Justice (15-1), will also be forwardly placed and forcing what will be an honest early tempo.

I am leaning towards a pair of price horses that will rally from off an expected healthy pace for the top prize . #4 Rookie Mistake (12-1) was fourth in the Oceanside S. on the course in July and will be a major player inside the final furlong with his top effort. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the chestnut son of Square Eddie has won or placed in four straight tilts in succession, and I really liked his third-place effort in a turf dash at Santa Anita most recently.

Rookie Mistake is obviously durable, having 11 races under his belt so far in 2020, and I expect the colt to be looming into contention approaching the turn for home on Sunday. Regular pilot Mario Gutierrez will be in the silks.

#9 Lure Him In (12-1) makes his second off of a sharp claim by Bob Hess. Khozan gelding had a two-race win streak snapped last time, though he did put forth a fine showing when runner-up in the Bear’s Den S. at Gulfstream Park. Florida-bred bay is versatile and figures to stalk and pounce in his California debut with Tyler Baze in the silks. The 3-year-old is of very good value at his morning-line number.
