How to bet the Mr. Prospector Stakes
A superb field of six will travel seven furlongs in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) at Gulfstream Park on Saturday. The feature has attracted two of the top sprinters in training, and it also boasts a few interesting contenders who are on the rise.
Mr. Prospector Stakes Analysis
X Y Jet is as swift as they come from the gate and will set sail for the lead from the opening bell. Imperial Hint will track him with intent throughout, with the other quartet waiting to pounce from a few lengths back early on.
I think the former could be vulnerable on Saturday, and I will exclude him from my plays while searching for value.
Mr. Prospector Stakes Bets
- $20 Exacta 2 with 5 = $20
- $3 Trifecta Key 2 with 4,5,6 = $18
Mr. Prospector Stakes Contenders
#1 HOME BASE (20-1) -- Former claimer has never been better for Mike Tomlinson, posting wins in three of his last four races. Street Sense colt has little experience with this kind of competition, though, and he will need a lifetime best to challenge this fine cast in the latter stages today. Chris Landeros will be on board.
#2 IMPERIAL HINT (1-1) -- Classy son of Imperialism rides in on a two-race win streak after successfully completing the Vanderbilt (G1) - Vosburgh (G1) double for a second straight season. Six-year-old Florida-bred is training in lights-out fashion in preparation of the Mr. Prospector, and he is the one to beat with Javier Castellano in the silks.
#3 X Y JET (7-5) -- $3 million earner makes his first start following a sensational tally in the Dubai Golden Shaheen S. (UAE-G1) in March. A two-time winner of this race, the Kantharos gelding is arguably the sharpest gate horse in training and will lead the way from the start on Saturday. His fitness level is of concern, however.
#4 ZENDEN (15-1) -- Sophomore was a smart allowance winner most recently in his debut since moving to the Pletcher barn. Fed Biz colt is a stakes winner at Gulfstream, and he is in good hands with John Velazquez in the stirrups. The Kentucky-bred enters with a bullet five-eighths move at Palm Beach Downs most recently.
#5 LASTING LEGACY (6-1) -- Jason Servis pupil was a sharp stakes winner in his most recent performance and comes in fresh for his local bow. Improving son of Tapizar has won three races in succession, and I think that he will be moving best from off the pace at a square price. Irad Ortiz Jr. picking up the mount adds to the appeal.
#6 DIAMOND OOPS (10-1) -- Lookin at Lucky gelding is four-for-five at Gulfstream Park, which includes a tally in the Smile Sprint (G3) here in June. The two-time Grade 1-placed four-year-old gets an ideal outside draw in the compact field, and he is also training swiftly in advance of the dash. Regular pilot Julien Leparoux will be up.
