How to bet the Rego Park Stakes

January 11th, 2020

A compact field of five sophomores will vie in Sunday’s $100,000 Rego Park S. at Aqueduct. The 6 1/2-furlong event for New York-bred runners attracted some nice prospects, and it appears to be a competitive race with talented 3-year-olds throughout the field.

Rego Park Analysis

#1 Convict led at every call at first asking and will be sent early on from the rail. Morning-line choice #4 Dream Bigger is the class of the field and also has a lot of pace for Rudy Rodriguez. The bay will force the issue from second, with #5 Scilly Cay tracking the tempo from the third-place slot.

Rego Park Contenders

#1 CONVICT (3-1) -- $180,000 juvenile purchase looked the part at first asking with a wire-to-wire tally for Contessa. Bay son of sharp sire Constitution was well backed in his debut offering, and the colt shows a trio of promising drills in the interim. Dylan Davis picks up the mount atop the likely pacesetter.

#2 NOTORIOUS FLIRT (12-1) -- Flatter colt is one of two in the cast for Linda Rice. Bay closed with fine energy to earn a maiden special weight win most recently, but he faces a tough task on the rise into the stakes ranks on this occasion. Kendrick Carmouche will guide the longshot.

#3 HARRIS BAY (4-1) -- Kimmel pupil won on debut like a good one at Belmont Park, but he has yet to build upon his promise in two subsequent stakes tries since. $170,000 son of Carpe Diem was freshened up for today, and he has not had the best of trips in his last two assignments. Junior Alvarado inherits the ride on the sneaky win contender who is poised for improvement.

#4 DREAM BIGGER (1-1) -- Horse to beat has been first or second in each of his five lifetime starts, with two stakes triumphs and a narrow defeat in the lucrative Great White Way S. last time out. Mission Impazible colt has done little wrong to this stage of his development, and a top performance will make him formidable in this field. Manny Franco will be in the stirrups.

#5 SCILLY CAY (3-1) -- Rice charge showed marked improvement with a sharp runner-up showing behind the favorite most recently. Fed Biz youngster has moved forward in every lifetime showing, and the contender drilled a bullet five furlongs in preparation of this test. Jose Lezcano will be up.
