How to bet the Senator Ken Maddy Stakes

October 24th, 2020

A field of seven fillies and mares will travel 5 1/2 furlongs on the Santa Anita lawn in Saturday’s $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy (G3).

Ken Maddy Analysis

The pace will be established by #5 Magic at Midnight, with #2 Biddy Duke tracking the pace with intent from second.

Ken Maddy Contenders

#1 JO JO AIR -- Multiple stakes heroine draws inside for her local bow for Ward. Scat Daddy 4-year-old didn’t produce her best effort on a yielding course at Pimlico most recently, but she clearly has the ability to be a major player in this affair with her top performance. Flavien Prat riding is a bonus.

#2 BIDDY DUKE -- Bayern sophomore chased lone speed to late stretch prior to finishing a nice third in the recent Unzip Me S. on the surface. Kentucky-bred has been in good form following a claim in the spring, and she has a chance while always being forwardly placed beneath Hernandez.

#3 AN EDDIE SURPRISE -- Wishing Well S. victress is a five-time winner on the course for O’Neill. Fine late runner comes in fresh off the shelf, and her local mark makes her a contender in a wide-open event under Gutierrez.

#4 LAKERBALL -- The third of the O’Neill trio finished a solid third in a recent allowance tilt going a route of ground in her most recent showing. Lakerville filly has been inconsistent to this stage of her development, and while she has Mike Smith in the irons, others seem more likely.

#5 MAGIC AT MIDNIGHT -- Unbeaten speedster from the Glatt barn gets a class test on Saturday in her first run on the Santa Anita lawn. Midnight Lute 4-year-old has never been headed from four lifetime tries to date, and she really looked the part in her swift turf sprint win at Del Mar two prior as well. The race goes through the dark bay and pilot Abel Cedillo.

#6 AQUA SEAFORM SHAME -- Baltas-trained daughter of Kantharos is the one to hold off in the Maddy. Unzip Me runner-up gave a nice impression of herself in a local debut last time out, and the Florida-bred rates a huge chance from a rating position with Rispoli in the controls. I will give her top billing.

#7 ZEE DROP -- Chestnut daughter of Lemon Drop Kid finished a smart fourth in the recent John C. Mabee (G2) at 9 panels and cuts back in trip for this affair. The Kentucky-bred 4-year-old will have a more potent late kick in her first 5 1/2-furlong test, and she makes a lot of sense for the top three with Gonzalez riding.
