How to bet the Thanksgiving Classic at Fair Grounds

November 25th, 2019

A compact but competitive field of five will vie in Thursday’s $100,000 Thanksgiving Classic at Fair Grounds. The six-furlong holiday feature attracted a solid group of one-turn specialists, and none in the cast would be a total surprise if coming out on top.

Thanksgiving Classic Analysis

Bobby’s Wicked One will be sent from the outside and looks like the one to catch in a second outing off the shelf. Sonic Mule, who is unraced since the spring of 2018, will also likely show speed with Whereshetoldmetogo.

Tringale will be forwardly placed some, as well, with Wilbo trailing the field in the early stages.

Thanksgiving Classic Stakes contenders and odds:

#1 WHERESHETOLDMETOGO (5-2) -- Multiple stakes hero was a dominant allowance winner in the slop at Churchill Downs most recently and draws the rail today. El Padrino colt appears to be rounding back into his three-year-old form, and the Maryland-bred rates an obvious chance in his Fair Grounds debut. Shaun Bridgmohan will be in the silks.

#2 TRINGALE (12-1) -- Longshot in the field was a smart runner-up in a Keeneland allowance last time out for Davis. Flat Out gelding rises up in class today, and the four-year-old will need a lifetime best to challenge this field in the final furlong.

#3 SONIC MULE (9-2) -- Five-year-old makes his first start for Sisterson off the extended layoff. Bay son of Distorted Humor has a measure of back class, but he lands in a demanding spot for his comeback attempt. Kentucky-bred will be firing from the opening bell under Beschizza.

#4 WILBO (5-2) -- Win contender from the barn of Chris Hartman was a game victor of the Aristides at Churchill Downs two back, prior to finishing third in the Bet On Sunshine most recently. Late runner has been in fine form since the spring and rates as an exotics threat beneath Kennedy.

#5 BOBBY’S WICKED ONE (8-5) -- The one to catch and beat draws well outside of the small field and will be tough with his best showing on Thursday. Four-year-old colt dons a three-for-four record at Fair Grounds, and the chestnut will show marked improvement in his second assignment off the shelf. Regular pilot Miguel Mena will be in the stirrups.
