Monmouth: How to bet the Tyro Stakes

I liked how #5 Bart’s Dream (5-1) rallied for victory at first calling on the Gulfstream Park All-Weather oval and will tab him for success in his turf and black-type bow. The $37,000 juvenile buy was slow early and didn’t take much money in his June 25 unveiling, but the son of Chitu showed a nice turn of foot to reward his backers at 22-1 odds.

Bart’s Dream has a turf-winning sibling, and posted some grassy morning drills in South Florida in the spring. The chestnut lands in a field with substantial early speed which will aid his late kick for trainer Jose D’Angelo. Samy Camacho will be in the controls atop the selection.

#1 Power Attack (4-1) has flashed big speed in both of his career tries to date, including a facile wire-to-wire score on the Belmont lawn last time out. The dark bay son of War Dancer possesses the highest Brisnet Speed figure in the field and I expect him to flaunt early foot from the rail as soon as the gates open on Saturday.

Jorge Vargas inherits the mount atop the New York-bred speedster who will challenge for the lead from the opening bell.

The Doug O’Neill-conditioned #6 Sharp Aza Tack (5-2) led in gate-to-wire fashion at Santa Anita on debut and will aim to make it two-for-two in this spot. The dark bay son of Sharp Azteca was purchased for $100,000 in the spring, and that investment looks to be well worth it if his debut was any indication.

Sharp Aza Tack comes in fresh with a nice string of morning moves, and will be especially dangerous if he moves forward while making his local bow. Jairo Rendon will be in the stirrups atop the interesting prospect.
