How to bet the Vosburgh Stakes

September 25th, 2020

A well-matched field of six will contest Saturday’s $150,000 Vosburgh (G2) at Belmont Park. The “Win and You’re In” challenge series event will give the winner a direct entry into the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland on November 7.

Vosburgh Analysis

Forego (G1) third #1 True Timber and Monmouth invader #4 Share the Ride will challenge for the lead early on. I expect the pace to be an honest one.

Vosburgh Contenders

#1 TRUE TIMBER (9-2) -- Mineshaft 6-year-old has put in a pair of strong third-place efforts since arriving in the barn of Sisterson. Capable bay is winless dating back to 2018, but he is in good form and has won or placed in six of his seven attempts at Belmont Park in his lifetime. Kendrick Carmouche will be in the silks.

#2 FUNNY GUY (5-2) -- Big Brown colt was a closing fourth while favored in the recent Forego for Terranova. Talented bay is a stakes winner on the surface, and he has never been better as a logical win threat under Rosario.

#3 STAN THE MAN (8-1) -- Second from the Terranova shedrow was a clear runner-up in the True North (G2) two back in his latest local assignment. Chestnut son of Broken Vow exits a convincing score in the Tale of the Cat S. at Saratoga, and he will be right there late with any improvement off of that performance.

#4 SHARE THE RIDE (6-1) -- Dark bay son of Candy Ride ran the best race of his lifetime in his second with blinkers on when wiring the Mr. Prospector S. at Monmouth Park. Arriaga pupil showed improved gate speed in his latest voyage, and the gelding figures to be part of the pace once again in his Belmont debut. Upset pick will have Manny Franco in the irons.

#5 FIRENZE FIRE (7-2) -- Classy Florida-bred missed by a nose in the race in 2019 and loves the surface with a 7-4-1-0 mark over Big Sandy. Kelly Breen trainee didn’t handle the slop at Saratoga last time out, but marked improvement is expected following a bullet morning move as of late. Jose Lezcano will guide the son of Poseidon’s Warrior.

#6 ENGAGE (2-1) -- Morning-line choice makes his first appearance since his fourth-place result in the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Sprint for Asmussen. Into Mischief 5-year-old has run well in each of his trio of tries at Belmont, and the Grade 2 winner has trained well in preparation of his return. Jose Ortiz will be in the stirrups atop the stalker.

Vosburgh Wagers

  • $20 Win: #4 Share the Ride ($20)
  • $2 Trifecta: 4,5 with 4,5 with all ($16)
