How to play the all-stakes Pick 4 Sunday at Remington Park
The closing day card of the 2018 Remington Park season is Sunday, and it concludes with a $100,000 guaranteed all-stakes Pick 4. Leg three is the $400,000 Springboard Mile, the final point-scoring opportunity of the year in the 2019 Road to the Kentucky Derby series.
Here are thoughts on the sequence:
Race 9 -- $100,000 She's All In
Not the easiest of spots to make her debut against older horses, but the potential pace flow could aid three-year-old #8 COSMIC BURST (7-2), who has a pair of nice stakes wins this year in the Honeybee (G3) and Zia Park Oaks. #4 SHENANDOAH QUEEN's (2-1) best California form would be sufficient, though potential pace battle with morning line favorite Adore could soften her up.
Race 10 -- $100,000 Trapeze
Though the longest shot of the Steve Asmussen trio on the morning line, #7 BACKFLASH (20-1) perhaps the better long-term prospect, at least from a pedigree perspective. Medaglia d'Oro filly's second dam was Broodmare of the Year Fun House, the dam of champion Untapable and Grade 1 winner Paddy O'Prado. #6 MERADA (5-2) is two-for-two over this track and trip.
Race 11 -- $400,000 Springboard Mile (Click for FREE Brisnet past performances)
Asmussen taking a big swing with five in here, and we'll use two. #5 LONG RANGE TODDY (12-1) has won two straight impressively, including the $100,000 Clever Trevor. #6 TONE BROKE (15-1), meanwhile, also enters on a two-race win streak, both over this one-mile trip. Two-time winner #3 MARQUEE PRINCE (10-1) likely better than fifth versus Improbable at Churchill Downs would suggest. Perfect in two starts around two turns for Brad Cox. #1 EPIC DREAMER's (8-5) debut running line stands out as he was a solid second to subsequent Nashua (G3) winner Vekoma. Bullet half-mile since shipping in.
Race 12 -- $75,000 Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial
#10 MOCITO ROJO (5-1) has won 11 of his past 17, with three of those losses coming on turf. Couldn't be going any better. #5 DAZZLING GEM (7-2) second by a head in this last year and was second best to Mocito Rojo in the Evangeline Mile over the summer. Deep-closing #7 HENCE (3-1) was much the best in the Governor's Cup here in September and then outclassed in Kentucky more recently.
The 50-cent ticket:
4,8 with 6,7 with 1,3,5,6 with 5,7,10 = $24.
