Changes on the Leaderboard

With three Road to the Kentucky Derby prep races taking place last Saturday, the leaderboard saw several notable changes. Holy Bull (G3) winner Tiz the Law has ascended to second place with 22 points, followed closely by Robert B. Lewis (G3) winner Thousand Words with 20 points.

Last year's Remsen (G2) winner Shotski also gained some ground with his runner-up effort in the Withers (G3), climbing to fourth place with 14 points. His Withers conqueror, Max Player, joined the leaderboard with 10 points, good for 13th place. None of the other weekend prep race participants cracked the Top 20.

Ajaaweed: Runner-up in the Remsen (G2), Ajaaweed clocked five furlongs in 1:00.65 on Friday at Palm Meadows.

Anneau d'Or: The Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) runner-up turned in a stamina-building work on Saturday, clocking 7 furlongs in 1:29.80 at Golden Gate Fields. He's targeting a return to action in the Feb. 15 Risen Star (G2).

Answer In: Aiming for the Feb. 17 Southwest (G3), the Remington Springboard Mile runner-up blazed 5 furlongs in :59.40 on Sunday at Oaklawn Park.

As Seen On Tv: The Mucho Macho Man S. runner-up clocked 5 furlongs in a quick 1:00.00 on Thursday at Palm Meadows.

Authentic: On Thursday, the eye-catching Sham (G3) winner worked 5 furlongs in 1:01.40 at Santa Anita.

Basin: Hopeful (G1) winner continued his return from a layoff by breezing 5 furlongs in 1:02 on Saturday at Fair Grounds.

Blackberry Wine: Promising allowance winner blazed a half-mile over a wet-fast track at Fair Grounds on Friday, clocking the distance in a bullet :46.60.

Bourbon Bay: Jerome S. runner-up went 4 furlongs in a deceptively quick :48.21 over the slow Belmont Park training track on Friday.

Chance It: Winner of the Mucho Macho Man S., Chance It clocked a half-mile in :48.41 at Gulfstream on Sunday.

Dennis' Moment: The Iroquois (G3) winner burned up the Gulfstream main track on Sunday, blazing 5 furlongs in a bullet :58.47.

Enforceable: Lecomte (G3) winner cruised 4 furlongs in an easy :49.80 on Sunday at Fair Grounds.

Finnick the Fierce: A half-mile in :49.80 on Thursday at Fair Grounds will help keep the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) runner-up in fine form.

Gouverneur Morris: Continues to train forwardly at Palm Beach Downs, breezing 5 furlongs in 1:00.45 on Sunday.

Honor A. P.: Highly-regarded maiden winner breezed 5 furlongs in 1:02.40 on Sunday at Santa Anita.

Independence Hall: Aiming for a start in Saturday's Sam F. Davis (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs, Independence Hall wrapped up his preparations with a half-mile breeze in :48.60 over the Tampa main track on Sunday.

Liam's Lucky Charm: Runaway Pasco S. winner breezed a maintenance half-mile in :49.17 on Friday at Gulfstream Park.

Mr. Monomoy: The Lecomte third-place finisher turned in a quick half-mile on Saturday at Fair Grounds, going in :48.

Scabbard: The beaten favorite from the Lecomte got back on the work tab with a half-mile in :50.00 on Saturday at Fair Grounds.

Silver State: Runner-up in the Lecomte, Silver State breezed 5 furlongs on Monday at Fair Grounds, getting the distance in 1:01.

Storm the Court: In his final move before the Feb. 9 San Vicente (G2), the champion 2-year-old clocked 5 furlongs in 1:01.20 at Santa Anita.

Structor: On Monday at Palm Meadows, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner worked a half-mile in :48.90.

Looking Ahead

The undefeated Independence Hall, easy winner of Aqueduct's Jerome S. on Jan. 1, will make his second start of the season in Saturday's Sam F. Davis at Tampa Bay Downs. He'll likely be joined in the 1 1/16-mile race by Ajaaweed, giving us an opportunity to see how two of the best colts from New York stack up against their Floridian foes.
