Lone Star hosts re-scheduled Texas Champions Day June 14

Texas Champions Day, take two, is set for this coming Sunday afternoon at Lone Star Park when the Dallas-area track hosts seven $75,000 stakes restricted to Texas-breds.

The lights literally went out on Texas Champions Day on its original date of Mar. 21 at Sam Houston. A blown transformer caused most of the card to be cancelled, and the following day the track announced the cancellation of the rest of the meet due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here's a rundown of the stakes:

The $75,000 Yellow Rose, for older filly and mare sprinters going 6 furlongs, features 2019 winner Shes Our Fastest and the multiple stakes-winning Ima Discreet Lady.

Older male sprinters will vie in the $75,000 Spirit of Texas, also over 6 furlongs. Direct Dial is back to defend his title for Steve Asmussen, while the Karl Broberg-trained Imma Bling figures to be his main rival.

Redatory looks tough in his title defense of the $75,000 Richard King Turf over 1 1/8 miles. Last year's runner-up Bonjour Baby and Sunlit Song are other leading candidates.

Gold Pilot and Good Judgment figure to take most of the support in the $75,000 Groovy, a 6-furlong dash for 3-year-olds. Moro Said Ready precociously won two stakes last summer, while recent graduates John Dough and He's a Suitor have the potential to improve.

Always Inthe Munny is the one to fear in the $75,000 Bara Lass for 3-year-old fillies at 6 furlongs. That is if she can avoid bouncing off of a romping allowance win at Will Rogers Downs against open company. Brightest, No Mas Tequila, and Gee She Sparkles are other potential threats.

Corluna, runner-up by a half-length last year, can go one place better in a soft renewal of the $75,000 San Jacinto Turf for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles.

Kats Second Silver, He's So Zazzy, and Kenai Bob could be the primary contenders in the $75,000 Star of Texas for older horses at one mile on the main track.

Two overnight events precede the stakes action on the Sunday card, which kicks off at 4:05 p.m. ET.
