Longer-priced horses to watch on Southwest Day at Oaklawn Park

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -- An excellent and challenging 10-race card awaits fans both here at Oaklawn Park and around the country on this holiday Monday. The feature is the $500,000 Southwest (G3) for three-year-olds, a Road to the Kentucky Derby series prep, which I commented on yesterday. After sifting through the undercard, here are several expected longer-price horses and other non-favorites worth considering in exotics plans, if not the straight pools. Race 2 Stakes-placed #5 AQUAMARINE (8-1) ran a good one off the shelf at this level to start the 2018 meet, but comes in off a much longer break here. Gelded since his last start, he debuts here for Robertino Diodoro, who's been getting the five-year-old ready at Delta Downs. Race 4 #5 MUCHO MAS (10-1) finished third in a key maiden first out at Churchill last fall, was bothered early in her second start at Keeneland, and something apparently went awry last time back at Churchill. Capable of better against this group. Race 6 #7 INCORRIGIBLE (10-1), owned by the Cella brothers that run Oaklawn, adds blinkers after beating a retreat against Southwest entrant Gray Attempt at Churchill last time, a step back from a decent debut fourth in the mud at Keeneland. Figures to be prominent early in this stretch-out attempt. Race 7 -- Bayakoa (G3) #7 REMEDY (4-1) didn't fire in a slowly-run Houston Ladies Classic (G3), but figures a stronger factor off her Comely (G3) form where she was a gallant second to Blamed after a slow start. That rival captured the Royal Delta (G3) on Saturday. Race 8 -- Razorback (G3) Saddled with an outside post like morning line favorite Coal Front, #13 THIRSTFORLIFE (30-1) had some solid form last season before ending his campaign on a low note. Ran Leofric, the eventual Clark H. (G1) and Fayette (G2) winner, to a neck here, and later placed in the Mineshaft (G3) before taking a pair of Churchill allowances.
