Mandatory payout sparks interest in Gulfstream Rainbow 6
Saturday's mandatory payout of the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park will attract a huge final pool if not huge win mutuels during the sequence. It's the best time to get involved with this jackpot wager, especially at a 20-cent minimum. Here's how my ticket will look.
Race 7
We'll cover some bases in a relatively inscrutable bottom-level maiden claimer. #2 OH DANNY BEAR (6-1) a distant third at this level in his dirt debut. Gelded and worked quick in the interim. #4 VALID EXCHANGE (9-5) hasn't shown much staying power but might display more dropping to his lowest level. First-time starter #6 MY INTEREST (12-1) has a potent trainer/jockey combo in his corner, while #15 CROWN ROMANCE (6-1) has shown some semblance of competitive form in two starts.
Race 8
#3 POP'S IRISH ROSE (20-1) is a hot-or-cold type who won two similar races over this course last year. #5 HERA (9-2) didn't settle well for Saez when favored at this level in late December. Capable of better. #9 DYNATOWN (5-2) has loads of upside following a neck loss against same, but that was at five furlongs and her lone two-turn try to date was disappointing.
Race 9
#9 CAN'T BUY ME LOVE (7-2) ran super in her debut and won't be a maiden long if she runs back to that race. #12 DANCE AND DANCE (20-1) weakened late after setting the pace in her bow. Pletcher barn dangerous with second-time starters and she might settle more this time sans blinkers from this outside draw.
Race 10
The race goes through #5 STANDARD DEVIATION (9-5) and #3 GLOBAL CAMPAIGN (7-5). The former a rough-trip third in a better-than-realized edition of the Breeders' Futurity (G1) should appreciate the drop in class. Global Campaign turned heads winning on debut by nearly six lengths and is bred to enjoy the stretch-out.
Race 11
Class on the grass will be tough to beat in the $100,000 El Prado. Nearctic (G2) winner #8 HEMBREE (7-2) had excuses in a couple losses on the turf last season. Strong works for this. #5 MR CUB (9-2) will have to deal with other speed here, but just ran a close second to eventual Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) winner Bricks and Mortar. #9 KRAMPUS (6-1), most recently third behind Bricks and Mortar and Mr Cub, might also benefit from additional pace here.
Race 12
Chad Brown firster #1 CAFE AMERICANO (3-1) appears well meant for owner Peter Brant. Cost $625,000 at auction is by Medaglia d'Oro and out of Canadian champ Roxy Gap. Faces no monsters here. Most capable of the prior starters might be #12 SILVER KITTEN (9-2), a close third second time out when adding blinkers.
The ticket:
2,4,6,15 with 3,5,9 with 9,12 with 3,5 with 5,8,9 with 1,12 = $57.60.
