Maryland-breds could impact Breeders Crown card
One week after Laurel Park hosted the 33rd edition of the Maryland Million Day where Maryland-bred and Maryland-sired runners were on full display, several Maryland-bred harness horses could earn their share of the spotlight tomorrow night at Pocono Downs when that Pennsylvania five-eighths mile oval hosts the Breeders Crowns.
In fact, Saturday's opener is a $75,000 Invitational for three-year-old colt pacers where a pair of Maryland-breds could ply spoiler roles. Slick Tony, a sophomore son of No Spin Zone owned, bred and trained by George "Ronnie" Leager and Winbak Farm product Ideal Feeling, who participated in last week's Breeders Crown elims, will look to foil Jimmy Freight, Hitman Hill and Stay Hungry in this affair. Slick Tony dominated the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund events and was fourth in the $400,000 Milstein Memorial at Northfield Park.
While Maryland-bred sophomore pacing star Courtly Choice failed to earn a spot in the Breeders Crown final for his division, fellow Winbak Farm products Zero Tolernance (2yo filly pace), Met's Hall (3yo colt trot), Twinkle (mare pace) and Newborn Sassy (mare pace) will look to earn their fair share of fame and fortune. Zero Tolerance, Met's Hall and Twinkle should be major players in their respective events and at least the first two would have a chance for a division title with a victory.
