Mondo Di Cavalli In Yonkers Trot; Super Finals At Hooser Send Indiana’s Best To Task; Courageous Lady On Tap
This weekend the racing is extreme in theme. Our features will cover major events from local to global. The global feature, the $1-million Yonkers International Trot, takes place in New York with a cast from around the world. Other features present national and state-wide champs. All of the features offer wagering opportunities the likes of those you will rarely see elsewhere what we provide here.
The Breeders Crown Countdown (BCC), in its final few weeks, handles top-class aged events on the special Yonkers International Trot program.
Unique wagering choices are selected in our horses-to-watch list (H2W). Explore any and all horses we post for use in wagers of your discretion. Do your own handicapping and then consider any and all our H2W and frosh selections.
HOOSIER SUPERHEROES
Hoosier presents its Indiana Sires Stakes Super Finals (INSSSF) on Friday, Oct. 13. Eight $220,000 races devoted to the best of the divisions line the program and come under scrutiny here.
If you are not already a member of the TwinSpires Hoosier High Rollers Club, click on the promo box to find out how to join and how being a member benefits your bets. We are expanding the coverage of this special night to help you if you care to join. The eight INSSSFs are the highlights and suggested contenders for every other race that evening appear in Hoosier’s H2W list section.
INSSSF two-year-old filly pace
From our caldron in last week’s lower final for this division, we bring back Tellitsassymae. Her finish in fifth last week to a 40-1 shot (she was 9-1) is a toss out. She is well, fit and in a great spot to handle this field and still offer a decent price.
INSSSF three-year-old filly trot
Black Mamba AS should find a pathway to the top, if not early, from post 1 and put in a giant mile with a great price for backers.
INSSSF two-year-old filly trot
Sofia Lia went better against top public choices than expected last week and must be considered a strong contender against much the same.
INSSSF three-year-old filly pace
Voom Or Bang has been extremely productive and comes into this race as one of the public choices because it is too obvious to toss out her credentials.
INSSSF two-year-old colt trot
Huge favorite Swandre the Giant was put away by one of our contenders a few weeks back (Union Forces) so we opt for another upset here, this time with a member of the same sire’s crop, Martini Show. Staffan Lind’s green colt could pave a trip that trips up the “Giant” and pay better than it should.
INSSSF two-year-old colt pace
Im A Real Ladys Man broke last week in a lesser final and was eliminated. He was let off at 9-2, a good price for that field. In this field he will go off more than that and deserves another shot in a very tough and tight event.
INSSSF three-year-old colt trot
Fiftydallarbill comes from a strong Red Mile event and will be a mega-favorite, not with the kind of odds when we caught him in last year’s Breeders Crown. We will opt for an upset. Leaving from the second tier, Lion Safari AS needs attention as an over-thrower and in all exotics.
INSSSF three-year-old colt pace
How does Always A Prince lose this race? Could Shnitzledosomethin have any advantage while leaving right in front on him (post 2)? If you want to look beyond those homeboys, take Skyway Quinton into consideration. He is rarely out of the mix and competitive against the best in this division.
COURAGEOUS LADY
Northfield presents one of its standard stakes on Oct. 13, this one for so soph-filly pacers. It’s the $125,000 Courageous Lady and a field of eight show up for a route around the Home of the Flying Turns.
You may not be able to fault Wisdom Tree in this event. She is far and above the best, followed by Ron Burke’s duo, Baron Remy abd Strong Opinion. Certainly drivers will attract some dollars to their charges, especially Cult Icon, who partners with Dave Palone. The Meadows champ travels to Ohio, as of this writing, only for this drive.
For a possible upset and to be in the exotics mix, there is Bad Girls Rule. Though she has only a single win all season, her bankbook is thriving from place and show finishes. Ohio-based Virgil Morgan, Jr., who is no stranger to sending out winners and earners, trains her. She will present a delicious price here.
MILLION-DOLLAR WORLD
The $1-million Yonkers International Trot (1 ¼ miles) on Oct. 13 may create many quizzical faces on handicappers and bettors considering the depths and mysteries of most horses in the field. No one should feel lacking when it comes to assessing the invaders or their connections; few, if any, of them, make North American headlines.
Not all of the posts will present strangers. There are entries that should be known to stateside gamblers—Marion Marauder, Ariana G and Will Take Charge. Just how they measure up to seven trotters that have little to no experience stepping on American turf is a total mystery even to their connections. Who could tell what affect coming to the U.S. to stomp along in a field of 10 on a half-mile track will have on each?
We know one thing about each of the invaders: they have fruitful resumes and are world-class by definition. Some have won the biggest events in their circuits. Ringostarr Treb won the Elitlopp; Lionel won an Elitlopp elim; Up And Quick won the Prix d’Amerique; and Arazi Boko, Cruzado Dela Noche, Pastore Bob and Slide So Easy have made bags of their local legal tender racing against competent worldly foes.
Still, the morning-line favorite (ML) is Canada’s Marion Marauder. He was second in last year’s event and will be hammered in the win pool for reasons that include fan and country loyalty. Will Take Charge goes for Canada, too, but he does not have the star quality nor the classy history to get a ML better lower than 6-1.
The U.S. sends Ariana G (5-1) and let’s face it, she also has her country’s fans and she has also beaten the best in her own country. Jimmy Takter’s tough property may be a better bet than the obvious “Marion,” according to how the wagering develops.
As for the invaders, we feel Ringostarr Treb has a good shot to upset the more famous among the field. (All journalists are drooling over possible headlines featuring “Ringo.”) Ringo was strong and full of trot in the Elitlopp, pulling from the rail and, on the outside, trotting down the speedy leader before drawing off. He was on the engine all the way, battling challengers to win the Olympiatravet Final. His trainer, American Jerry Riordan, trained last year’s champion Twister Bi. The ML for Ringo is 4-1 but he may go off higher considering the North American contingent.
We’ll be using Ringo and Ariana G in all exotics and watching how the world wagers upon this dignified field.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race. Types of wagering on any of the H2W listed horses are based on your judgment. If you have any questions, email us at TwinSpires.
