Monmouth Park, Race 8: Jersey Shore S. (6 furlongs, 4:10 p.m. ET)

#3 Premier Star (2-1 on the morning line) is a deserving favorite to win this dash for 3-year-olds.

A speedy frontrunner, with a pair of allowance wins, Premier Star ran well with a change of tactics in the Aug. 29 Amsterdam (G2) at Saratoga, where he rallied to finish third, behind rising star sprinter Yaupon and two-time Grade 1 winner Basin.

Premier Star will face easier competition in the Jersey Shore, and if he breaks quickly, there is a chance he’ll shake loose on a clear lead.

He has been training sharply for trainer Michael Trombetta (a 24% winner at Monmouth), and Paco Lopez (leading jockey during the Monmouth summer meet) is slated to ride. What’s not to like?
