More Sophomores Get With The Programs At Yonkers, Rosecroft; Six Pack Returns In Graduate Trot Division

Both harness blogs blast off for bettors this weekend. Our features preview is Saturday-heavy as the eastern seaboard tracks sail into mid-May. Along with the highlighted affairs in this edition of our preview blog, sophomore trotters and bettors go for top dollars in the Hambletonian Trail blog. With a 41-plus percent across-the-board hit rate last week, TwinSpires exclusive horses-to-watch (H2W) list is in its usual spot, suggesting probable elements for bettors to use in all wagers. Last week the H2W projected a $108.00 winner at Hoosier. You best pay attention to some of the horses named on the list. Do your own handicapping and then consider our H2W selections. BB GOES ON The Go On BB’s second leg starts the May 16 Hoosier program, putting track perks into play (see Offers) for the two divisions. Last week’s contender, This Peach Rocks, is back in the first split, but in this field we look to toss our support to Lewayne Miller’s Northern Salina. Zero wins for four starts do not turn us off because the competition is not exactly awesome. The public choice should fall on Dojea Rita, resulting in far too many bets to make a worthy price. Northern Salina will offer a good price to win and be important to exotics, if you use Dojean Rita and Lady Capulet in the mix. Closing the program is the second $9,000 “BB” division, with 10 on the gait. Jeff Cullipher’s Kinda Like Kori should lead the betting majority. However, Fully A Virgin will compete closely for that status. The only outsider we could suggest is Sage Ivy. She may improve at this level in only her fourth event this season, which includes one win, and she certainly should be a fair price. TROT GRADS The Graduate’s first leg for four-year-old trotters is in two $50,000 divisions on May 18 at the Meadowlands, with eight on board, seven facing the mare Atlanta. Atlanta’s debut at for at Miami was easy because she raced against measurably slower, lower class trotters. In division one she faces those at her own level, including the debut at four of Six Pack. Ake Svanstedt’s rough-and-tumble Six Pack has always been ready to race, that is, no layoff, loss or race trip could be held against him. Here he is ready to go, no doubt, and could wind up at a fair price considering Atlanta and Fiftydallarbill. In the other trot division, a break in his first start at four is no reason to dismiss Crystal Fashion. Race two of his season should be an easy win, as usual from off the pace, but don’t count out a rousing wire-to-wire win. He is up against seven others that should not make him blink—Jim Campbell’s trotter is in for a great season in the new division. MARYLAND MENAGERIE Maryland Sires Stakes (MDSS) are still around, as is Rosecroft Raceway, and $70,000 finals featuring four divisions take place on May 18. Here is an abbreviated look at the three-year-old fields in order of their appearance on the program. The filly pace has a field of nine and the top money-winner, KJ Dr. Michelle, seems to warrant favorite status. Our choice is Anna B, who is in the main event after only two races as a soph, with one win. Trained by Roger Hans, she will be a strong contender. The obvious four-for-four winning Fire’n Woodshed leads the nine-deep colt trot, Again, Hans could overthrow a public choice here with Gaareat Gaazoo. From post 9 there will be a good price available for support for this well-bred winner of one for three. The filly trot, with nine, offers us to back Bossy Hilly. Leon Harris’ filly appears in her third race in the division and should not be penalized by her winning time, as the public will do when they like HS Judy Jetson better based upon speed. The glamour-boy pace has no division contenders but the nine here make for a contentious race. The top money-earners are on the outside but will get major support. We look for a giant effort from Berzerker, leaving mid pack. He started the season losing only one of three and has a post edge to supply a great trip for trainer Brandon Murray. ONTARIO ONWARD A SBOA sophomore pace final for fillies at Woodbine/Mohawk on May 18 offers 10 province-breds a share of $165,290. In the field, the top ones from last year include Summer Charm ($172,000), Ideation Hanover ($163,000) and Better Single ($163,000). Sunny Dee was a huge favorite in last week’s elim and beat two in the top trio to give his soph season a big boost for trainer Bob McIntosh. Of the three top frosh performers from last year, Summer Charm could close the deal at a decent price when the crowd hammers Sunny Dee, mostly because Summer Charm is the better horse and the class will show in the final. H2W Legend Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race.
