Mucciolo’s Canterbury Park Spot Plays

A trio of turf stakes races leads a nine-race program at Canterbury Park on Saturday. And it’s a good time to take advantage of the Full Card Bet Back offered on the card.

Here is a quartet of runners that I am tabbing for success:

RACE 2

BEACH FLOWER (#3) (9-2) is winless from a trio of turf runs locally having finished third on each occasion. The Mac Robertson trainee ran a lifetime best on the dirt with a powerful score in a debut with blinkers. She has a hint of class for a high-percentage barn and will have Dean Butler on board. The Flower Alley five-year-old could get a fine trip behind a contested early pace, too.

RACE 4

SHOW BOUND (#4) (6-1) makes a first run off the claim for the ever-dangerous Dan McFarlane. The five-year-old gelding will rise in class but was much the best on this course last time. He was a solid third in a turf sprint stakes in December against better at Fair Grounds. Francisco Arrieta will be rallying the bay son of Warrior’s Reward from off a swift early tempo.

RACE 5

I am not sure if EXTRA GRAND (#3) (6-1) is a great win selection, but the improvement with blinkers added last time was sizable. The Captain Bodgit filly was a clear second when rallying with good energy and she makes a third run off the 11-month absence in this spot. Chad Lindsay has the assignment.

RACE 6

BOURBON COWBOY (#3) (5-2) showed marked improvement from the gate when adding blinkers most recently and should wire this field, which lacks pace. The Robertino Diodoro pupil is of stakes quality and comes in with a rapid :46.71 bullet move over the track in advance of this one. Leslie Mawing should have things his own way atop the Cowboy Cal gelding.
