North America Cup Elims Forecast $1-Million Field; Northfield ‘Battle’ Lines Drawn; Aged Mares Meet For Miles

The sophomore pacers are revved up for super-purse action, equaling fame and fortune, as Woodbine/Mohawk (WoMo) presents the eliminations for the North America Cup Final. Along with the features that usually accompany the main event, WoMo is hot wagering territory. The trot sophs won’t be left out of the mix, either as the Goodtimes trot for the colts is the next stop on the Hambletonian Trail. Check out the blog for smart-wagering tactics for TwinSpires harness bettors. For more live horses at more harness meets than any other website offers, the TwinSpires horses-to-watch (H2W) list follows horses bettors may use in any wagers. You best pay attention to horses on the list. Do your own handicapping and then consider our H2W selections. FLYING MARES Trotting femmes compete in a pair of $35,000 Armbro Flight elims on June 7 at Woodbine/Mohawk (WoMo). A field of eight covers the ground in the first split. It is tough again to go against Atlanta but it must be done if you do not want to pass this race since immediately to her right leaves Plunge Blue Chip. As readers of this blog know, we take seriously any animal entered in a race by Ake Svanstedt and Plunge Blue Chip is one of Ake’s that deserved extra attention. You may fiddle with exotics using Atlanta as a key but a win bet for us is on the nose and expected upset by Plunge Blue Chip. In round two, the Canadian crowd probably backs Emoticon Hanover strongly. Luc Blais’s mare has proven to be a force in every division she has competed and her latest season will follow suit. After all, Hannelore Hanover, leaving just next to the Blais mare, has been a dud—and that is being kind to her performances. “Emoticon” will be gunning for an easy mile. However, look who will be after her: Ake Svanstedt’s Ice Attraction; another Ake threatening high stepper and one that this blog has cashed in on over the past two seasons. Of course we will go for Ake’s mare over the aforementioned, while we dismiss Manchego from the outside and would even if he left from the inside. BATTLE PARK OHIO Northfield Park’s $200,000 Battle of Lake Erie for older pacers is the track’s feature on Saturday, June 8. Eight Free-For-All pacers fight for the bulk of the six-digit purse on the half-mile oval. We do not know which top horses in the division turned down invitations but it may have been more than usual, as the field is not eight-champs full. The Wall is here off of his wild win in The Confederation Cup and that will attract a bunch of bettors. Jennifer Bongiorno’s None Bettor A looks for win six of eight starts, while Jimmy Freight campaigns for his first win of the season, stuck to the left on the outside of Filibuster Hanover, also in pursuit of a winner’s circle appearance. Some locals are also involved. From the precious 1 hole, Robert Cleary’s Rodeo Rock could blast off and control this field on the Flying Turns. His post gives him the edge of the few steps necessary not to worry about Jimmy Freight and Filibuster Hanover as they work hard from their outside posts to get a contending spot. Rodeo Rock has earned six figures this season already, winning four of nine and off the board just once. Better than all that is he may go off a very fair price. N.A. CUP ELIM ENCLAVE Just two $50,000 North America Cup elims will decide the field for next week’s soph classic, million-dollar final at WoMo on June 8. The first group features the ex-frosh champ and probable favorite Captain Crunch, who has already given trainer Nancy Johansson a pair of easy wins against top competitors in the division. A huge favorite status is expected. The recent sterling performance of Bettors Wish in the Art Rooney Final earns this guy a “now horse” tag that will generate some strong support. And Hurrikane Emperor, who has swept the limp competition of New York Sires Stakes colts, should be a third or fourth fan choice, battling with De Los Cielos Deo, who opened some eyes with a 1:48.4 qualifying win. That is a lot of speed, most of which could show its wrath in the first three quarters, which may burn a few hooves. The way Bettor’s Wish won the “Rooney” with a sweeping late kick before the stretch on that half-mile, makes us hope he is not the second but the third or fourth choice, because a good price on him is not to be passed. Hopefully, the crowd will adore the other three more, giving us a fair chunk of change for Bettor’s Wish. In the second trial, Stag Party is back after a disappointing show finish last week in a stakes prep. Tyga Hanover, who tries to beat him again in this mile, beat him. Stag Party admirers excused the colt due to a second-tier 11-post start. However, he did not have much to beat; so there’s that. Burke’s Captain Victorious comes out of post 1 with a few bucks on his side and the rest have not shown much desire to engage at this level—yet. Perhaps Johansson could have an improving colt in Caviart Rockland and this is his spot to show such progression? Considering the good arguments some could make for this mostly unfamiliar field, a shot with Caviart Rockland may offer decent money, more than what he may offer in the final if he does well here. FAN FRAMES There are two Fan Hanover elims for $35,000 each at WoMo on June 8. the glamour-girl pacers are on tap for these. The first episode should find the win money spread out a bit. It is tough for us to predict a public choice in this tapestry of equal talent. We were disappointed thus far this season with Summer Charm. She missed at 7-1 in the Ontario SBOA final, where she should have raced better, but she belongs in this class and in this field may shine at a price over these at a great price.. The second elim hails at least a pair of super fillies. In essence, this whole event is a Sunny Dee versus Warrawee Ubeaut bout. The former will have to settle for larger-than-usual odds, though, coming from post 8, meeting her strongest competitor leaving from post 5. What’s that really mean, though? Both of these fillies are strapped to sizzle, though getting any bigger price on Sunny Dee than has already been offered makes her look like a good bet. Perhaps she can steal the elim from “Ubeaut,” if not the final, so we like her here for price and purpose. RED ROSE SPEEDWAY There is a single prep mile for next week’s Roses Are Red Final at WoMo. The June 8 prep is worth $35,000 with nine aboard. The usual cast of pacing mares is here, headed by Shartin N. Our sites have been on Caviart Ally’s improving season, which in the long run could give Shartin N more trouble than most predict. Now in the Brett Pelling barn, Caviart Ally has already given Shartin N notice and it is just a matter of time and more improvement that could topple the super Shartin N in a number of stakes. We continue the support of our forecast. H2W Legend Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race. Types of wagering on any of the H2W listed horses are based on your judgment. If you have any questions, email us at TwinSpires.
