North America Cup Promises Speed, Class And Profit; Top Stakes Program At Woodbine/Mohawk For Mares And Sophs

The first giant program of the season takes place at Woodbine/Mohawk (WoMo) with The North America Cup Final highlighted. Supporting features remain traditional, with WoMo offering the filly “Cup” version Fan Hanover and aged stakes for mare pacers and trotters.
The trot-colt sophs are on the program with the Goodtimes Final, covered in depth at our Hambletonian Trail blog. Also, the blog covers Philly colt action on June 14. Check out the exclusive blog for smart-wagering tactics.
Again, we suggest more contenders at more harness meets than any other website offers with the TwinSpires horses-to-watch (H2W) list. Do your own handicapping and then consider our H2W selections.
ARMBRO FLIGHT PLAN
The mare trotters are on tap at WoMo June 15 with the $256,000 Armbro Flight Final. Ten veterans earned their way here from last week’s eliminations.
The biggest surprise from the elims was a stellar performance from Hannelore Hanover (HH). She delivered a form-changing mile for Ron Burke after she performed showing little interest this season.
On the other hand, Atlanta continued to obliterate fields in the division, winning the other elim with aplomb. These two will dominate all of the betting, deciding the many arguments that ensue as support for either beforehand.
If you want to go after them, we feel the only choice is Plunge Blue Chip. Even though she had chased them this season, she has been there for Ake Svanstedt, getting better and better, promising to be a major player in the division. If you bet her you are buying into the scenario that HH and Atlanta will cancel one another out while shooting for a major speed badge; there are far worse upsets you could hope for but not involving Svanstedt.
PACER ROSES
For $330,000, 11 mare pacers get behind the gate for the June 15 Roses Are Red Final. Unfortunate for 10 of them, one of them is Shartin N.
We have been looking at Caviart Ally to slow down the dominance of Shartin N and last week in the single-race prep it appeared Brett Pelling’s challenger continued to be satisfied following Shartin N to the finish line.
Caviart Ally had an easy trip following Shartin N to every quarter and leveled Youaremycandygirl’s overland attempt to close best in the stretch. Actually, Youaremycandygirl’s trip was tougher and more promising as a candidate to topple Shartin N, giving pause to our original forecast. Further jumbling the theory was Seaswift Joy N, who was right there with Youaremycandygirl at the wire.
There is little doubt that Shartin N and Caviart Ally will be the first and second public choices, respectively, so we hand our support over to Youaremycandygirl for price and purpose. Such an upset would be no surprise to us but a great disappointment to our pari-mutuel adversaries.
FAN CLUB
The $454,000 Fan Hanover for soph-filly pacers on June 15 could be one more theater for Warrawee Ubeaut. She came into this season as the anointed ex-frosh-turned-soph queen and her elim last week gave no pause to the title. We can pass or try to beat her because as long as she is on the board (chances even greater than her chances to win), her involvement in exotics will exhaust the pools.
The other elim winner was Treacherous Reign but two obvious public-backed contenders, Tall Drink Hanover and Beautyonthebeach, also challenge her. “Ubeaut” has handled them both with total disrespect, laughingly eaving them in the dust. All that is available to support in the way of an upset is Beautyonthebeach. Given her 10-hole start she will offer a decent price—whether that is a fair price is up to the handicapper.
What’s a Ubeaut, anyway?
NORTH AMERICA CUP
This year’s edition is very tight, more so than was predicted even before Captain Crunch busted in the elim (though he made the final anyway). Mostly, we feel that Bettor’s Wish has been the “now horse.” We supported him in the elim—yes, before Captain Crunch broke.
We’re going to capitalize on a bigger mistake as we see it and that is a Morning Line that makes Workin Ona Mystery the 2-1 choice. Even as a betting prediction we find it hard it may come true. Certainly Captain Crunch, on his best day, is better, and what’s more, on his worse day, Stag Party is better.
Arguments may arise from some outsiders, as well. Hurrikane Emperor used himself hard in a strong brush, which lost him the elim but got him into the final; De Los Cielos Deo is sound enough to make an impact for Ron Burke; his other in the field, Captain Victorious, is not in over his head.
It will be impossible to determine the “smart money” because no one is so smart as to be sure about a definitive colt in this field that is best in the division. This makes it a good betting race if you get a price you like on any contestant you feel is worth what the public offers. For us, that’s Bettors Wish.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race. Types of wagering on any of the H2W listed horses are based on your judgment. If you have any questions, email us at TwinSpires.
