One week after hosting the $150,000 Bobby Quillen Memorial Invitational for Free-For-All pacers, Harrington Raceway offered a solid card on Monday evening one night after Rosecroft Raceway hosted a good blend of overnight races as well to cap off a weekend highlighted by the action the night before at Mohawk Park.
Monday evening's card at Harrington Raceway kicked off with the first split of the second $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund elims for freshman pacing colts and geldings. One week after settling for second to Dashiki (Montrell Teague) in the first round, Chillaxin Away (Victor Kirby) rebounded with an emphatic, five-length score in first over fashion in 1:54.3. It was his first win in four starts for trainer Jim King, Jr while Dashiki suffered his third setback in four outings.
Several races later in the considerably slower second DSBF split, Keepmywiglegametyt (Jim Morand) carved out all the fractions and held sway late to score in 1:58.3, a full four seconds slower than the opening division. Owned, bred and trained by George Teague, Jr. of Rainbow Blue and Wiggle It Jiggleit fame, Keepmywiglegametyt notched his second straight win in the series but looks destined for minor spoils against Chillaxin Away and Dashiki in the $100,000 final.
Several races later in the $15,000 Open I Handicap, Options Are Adream (Ross Wolfenden) gained command from Slick Tony (Teague) before the opener in 27.3, rolled by the half in 55.4 and three-quarters in 1:24 and held sway through the lane for a length score in 1:51.3. A five-year-old If I Can Dream gelding trained by Wolfenden for David Banks of Rookery fame, Options Are Adream recorded his eighth win from 19 starts this year and pushed his seasonal earnings past $68,000.
Then two races later in the $11,000 Open II Handicap, Soto (Art Stafford, Jr.) benefited from a pocket trip behind Daiymir (Teague) through honest fractions of 27.3, 56.1 and 1:24.2 through the first three calls then overhauled the leader in the lane to score as the even-money choice in 1:52.2. A six-year-old Rock N Roll Heaven stallion trained by Eric Ell of JL Cruze fame, Soto notched his fifth win in 23 starts this year and recorded his 28th win from 119 lifetime outings.
One night earlier at Rosecroft Raceway, Remarkable De Vie (Allan Davis) and I Deliver (Jonathan Roberts) won the two MDSS divisions for two-year-old colt trotters in 1:59.2 and 1:59.3, respectively, while Anna B (John Wagner) won the MDSS elim for two-year-old fillies in 1:58.2 for owner-breeder-trainer Roger Hans.
Then in the second parimutuel race on the card, OK Fantastic (Russell Foster) overcame a long first over bid to score by two lengths in 1:52.4 as the 3-5 favorite in the $9,000 Winners Over class for older pacers. An eight-year-old Mach Three gelding trained by Joe Hundertpfund, Jr. for owner William Sartin, OK Fantastic recorded his second win from 20 starts this year and pushed his seasonal earnings past $23,000.
Several races later on the card, Smart Rokker (Declan Donoway) led throughout and rebuffed a first over bid from favored Bro Hanover (Sean Bier) to score by a length in 1:52.1 in the non-winners of $6,000 last five starts class for pacers.
