Opening day plays at Woodbine
Saturday marks the opening day of the fine meeting at Woodbine Racecourse. I have tabbed a quartet of contenders who could get the meet off to a fast start:
Race 4
#4 SILENT CEREMONY (8-1) makes a first run since the fall with a class plunge for Scott Fairlie. Gelded son of Silent Name showed very good early foot with better as a juvenile and could be the one to catch at a nice price in here. Bay runs for a good layoff barn and his seven foes are a combined 0-for-75 lifetime. Silent Ceremony is also the inside speed of the field.
Race 5
#4 WICKSTEAD (4-1) is a one-run closer in a field full of early types and could sit a dream trip under bug pilot Isabelle Wenc. Tharrenos trainee is not a win machine at 3-for-35 lifetime but the race sets up for him. Chestnut shows a pair of bullet morning moves in anticipation of his 2018 bow and is a nice exotics player, if not more.
Race 6
#4 INGE (6-1) is a notch below a few of these stakes types but looks like total lone speed in the Wando. Norman McKnight trainee has a fitness edge on most of his rivals today and likes it here with a pair of wins from five runs on this synthetic strip. Gary Boulanger will be sending the sophomore from the break and may never get headed.
Race 9
#5 HURRICANE EMILY (6-1) ran into Dream It Is at first asking, who came back to win a pair of stakes races including a nine-length romp in the Schuylerville (G3) at Saratoga. Hurricane Emily shows five solid recent works for her comeback attempt and daughter of Get Stormy drops in for a tag for a Cotey barn which is more than capable off of the layoff. In a race for the taking, I will be using Hurricane Emily as a single in the late sequences.
Good luck!
