Our ‘Prince’ Sizzles At $15 In ‘Wiggle’ Final; Ohio Soph Star Rules; Hoosier ‘Windfall’ Pays $10

This is the rundown for our weekend features, followed by the horses-to-watch list (H2W) results and some of the latest harness racing news: Thursday, April 25 Hoosier’s double-feature finals split for our picks, which relied on stock from high-win-percentage trainer Lewayne Miller. One of his fillies, and our choice, in the Miss Windfall Final won at a generous price. Tell Me Its Summer ($10.60, $3.20, $3.40 ok) beat stablemate Madelines Craycray (14-1), who came in fifth. The Stohler final was a disaster for the public, including for us. A 7-1 upset won it while our choices—two more Miller-barn entries—raced miserably. Norman’s Madeline (17-1) finished sixth and Northern Salina (65-1) ended the mile in eighth. Friday, April 26, At Miami, in its Scarlet & Gray Invitational, the crowd went along with our choice, making a favorite winner of Queen Of The Pride ($3.40, $2.20, $2.10). Considering her changes were sterling and she received majority support, the win price was fair. We offered two outsiders to pump up exotics but High Reward (16-1) finished fifth and Dragonfly (42-1) finished sixth. In Hoosier’s program finals, the public’s choices won. We finished second in the “Landess” with Rockie Got Framed ($2.60, $2.20) to secure a measly exacta worth $1.70. In the “Fransen” final we finished sixth with DI’s Big Elvis (20-1). Saturday, April 27 The afternoon program at the Meadows offered four local finals, none of which escaped the wrath of the public’s wagering. Three favorites and one second choice took the events. We contributed to a $4.80 exacta in one of the races with Lindsy Missunshine ($3.20, $2.80). In the other three we were destroyed by the top picks. Morning Shadow (24-1) andDoc’s Hooligan (35-1) each finished seventh. Stinglike ABK (5-1) was thoroughly involved until breaking stride and galloping home eighth. The Meadowlands’ soph finals began with the colt trotters. Our prospect for the colts in the Walner final, Winnerup (17-1), broke after three-quarters, finishing fifth. That was a better mile than the crowd’s favorite, who broke on the lead in the stretch and galloped backward to finish last. Our best shot of the night came through in the Wiggle It Jiggleit final with Prince Of Tides ($15.80, 8.80, $4.80). H2W LIST RESULTS The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Also, exactas listed are included when a H2W horse finishes second with a race favorite or the first two finishers making up the exacta are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses were listed to complete a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices published are correct even when a show price exceeds a place price or any or all of the prices are the same. This week, there were 53 active horses (an xx-percent win hit rate and a xx-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate). Those eligible will be racing to earn their ways into fame on the first Saturday in August at the Meadowlands. May 2 presents, once again, the 2019 weekly addition of The Hambletonian Trail blog. The exclusive spinoff to our TwinSpires harness menu (in cooperation with the Hambletonian Society) follows the filly-and-colt divisions week after week in all of their high-class races imperative to an appearance in the big stakes. As is our trade, we analyze races including eligible colts and fillies in the “Trail” blog, suggesting contenders that fit in any type bet. Keep in touch. New York harness is bustling again, as Tioga Downs kicks off the 2019 racing season on Saturday, May 4. Racing will take place Saturdays and Sundays the first two weeks of the meet, with Friday cards added starging May 17. Tioga is added to the harness-track menu in The Empire State with Yonkers, Buffalo, Vernon, Monticello and Saratoga. The action is near New York capacity, when the state hosted nine pari-mutuel tracks. Charlottetown Driving Park horsemen are qualifying their stock at prep sessions for the track’s season opening. Charlottetown is scheduled to get its live season underway on Saturday, May 4 at 6 p.m. Charlottetown’s schedule continues through Dec. 31, with August offering 19 racing programs, the most of the eight months. Homicide Hunter, arguably the fastest trotter in history, raced on April 24 for the first time since he won last year’s Breeders Crown. Now seven, the son of Mr Cantab appeared at a qualifying session at Pocono. Leading at three-quarters, he opened up in the stretch, winning in 1:55.1 by more than 10 lengths. Homicide Hunter’s historic mile was raced in October at The Red Mile, where he came off the pace to win in 1:48.4. He is a career earner of $1.72 million for trainer Chris Oaks.
