Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 10/2/2016
Welcome to the Fall racing season at Palm Beach! As any racing fan knows, when the temperature starts to get a bit cooler and the leaves start to change, fantastic greyhound stakes action is not that far away.
Here's the top stories we saw from this past week at "The Beach."
Palm Beach Alumni In The $1.2 Million Festival Of Stakes
The Breeders Cup of the sport took place this past weekend at Southland Park in West Memphis, Arkansas. A record $1.2 million in purses was paid out throughout the day in the all distance Stakes Festival.
Notoriously, Palm Beach racers that have transferred over to Southland have not fared very well in this tournament. That all changed on Saturday. Lets take a look at how the alumni fared.
Craigie Renegade formally of Rader Racing kicked things off with a victory in the Crittenden Super Sprint Consolation with a going away time of 17.85 secs. The track record holder at "The Beach" has been very impressive all season at Southland.
Kb's Sophia also formally of Rader Racing finished second in the Ansel Styles Marathon Consolation at a steep price of 16-1 odds. Sophia actually held the lead for most of this race but couldn't hold off hard charging eventual winner Flyin Seabiscuit at the wire.
Daily Prayer from owner Henry Chin won the Darby Henry Female Sprint Consolation with a come from behind victory in 31.96 secs. Most people believed Prayer should of been in the $150K Final instead of this race, but still a great racer for her none the less.
PJ CarvedInStone from owner Norm Rader finished a disappointing 6th in the Darby Henry Male Sprint Championship to wrap up the days activities.
The biggest winner of them all from the alumni was Oaks Maddy formally of Rader Racing. Maddy came in to the Arkansas Bred Sprint Championship Tournament on a roll, as she was undefeated in four rounds of qualifying and she didn't falter in the final. Maddy went box to wire for the 31.85 secs victory and took home the $100,000 top prize. This is the first time an alumni has won a championship title in this Festival since Rob Gronkowski brought home the Sprint Championship back in 2013.
Congrats to Oaks Maddy on the gigantic victory for you and your team!

Fabulous Friday Superstars
To end the month of September, Palm Beach scheduled some of the biggest names in the game to start in the Fabulous Friday Matinee and they didn't disappoint. Superior Tyson, Blu Too Tarmac, GV MooseIsLoose and Ethel Is Here (pictured) all were able to pick up victories.
I think this day was huge for the club because I felt in the past few weeks we were missing some star power here. "The Moose" was able to end his 5 week drought of getting to the winners circle, flying out of the box for the 29.56 secs victory. "Iron Mike" Tyson looked like he was on a mission after picking up his third straight win. Stars are the straw that stirs the drink and they came out in full force in this matinee card.
Top 10 Rankings To Be Released Monday Morning
One of our favorite things to put together each month is our Top 10 Rankings showcasing the top talent running in South Florida. Expect regulars to the poll Ethel Is Here and Superior Tyson to once again be on the list, but there are many newcomers this time around. One is Cbj Tootsie Roll (pictured) who burst on the scene in September along with "Motown" JS Tim Tation who put in one brilliant performance after another all month long.
Greyhound Adoption Month
Every October, Palm Beach and all of it's adoption agencies in the South Florida area offer free adoptions for their retired stars all month long. Anybody that has ever owned one of these loving animals knows that they are such amazing pets. They get along with children very well, rarely shed and love laying on your couch!
To adopt one of these amazing retired superstars, contact Palm Beach at 561-683-2222 ext. 125 or stop into the main offices for more info.
Daytona 550 Candidates?
As we roll into October, the debate for which sprinter should represent Palm Beach in the National Championship in Daytona come January will really start to heat up. At this point, the invitation has to go to GV MooseIsLoose with the season he has put together so far. Next up would be Superior Tyson in my opinion. Could a young up and comer impress the committee enough to snag a spot?
A lot can change in the next few months. Stay tuned!
That's all we have for this week. See you next time for the Wrap-Up!
