Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 3-12-2017
*2016 St Pats Winner Superior Tyson*
Welcome to one of the greatest weeks of the year! The $50,000 St Patrick's Day Invitational is one of the most watched events in the sport and we finally found out who will be in this years field this past week. Along with one of the craziest finishes of the year and a Triple Crown watch happening, there certainly was a lot to follow.
Here was the top stories we witnessed this past week at "The Beach."
2017 St Pats Field Revealed
This past Saturday, I was able to announce on the BigJackpotBetting.com Show with Randy Birch who the field will be for the big green dance. Here are the invites:
Janice Dean ~ Brindle Kennel (pictured)
Fraulein Morgan ~ Janie Carroll Kennel
Big Red Dog ~ Rader Racing
Hot Prospect Gal ~ Agganis Kennel
Barts Big Bang ~ Douglas Kennel
Super C Martha ~ Lester Raines Kennel
Whirlin Toodlelu ~Douglas Kennel
Pat C Faro ~ Koppe, Staats & Collins
Reactions
~This is exactly the 8 dogs I submitted to the committee when they asked for my picks last week! Beyond happy.
~Usually after the field is announced, there is always some type of debate or drama because a hound got in that was a head scratcher. This year, there should be very little complaints on this star studded field. The Palm Beach selection crew got this one right.
~Love that star pup Super C Martha (pictured) gets a shot at a title. Even after just eight starts, this youngster deserves a shot at immortality with how impressive she has been.
~Even though we knew she was going to get in automatically, it still was a thrill to see Janice Dean get the official nod and setup an historic Triple Crown run. The world will be watching as we all witness what could be something truly epic.
~Have to feel great for the Douglas Kennel who got two hounds in with Whirlin Toodlelu & Barts Big Bang. Usually the committee stays away from having two greyhounds from the same kennel in this big stakes event, but denying one of these two alphas after the seasons they've had would just have been wrong.
~Box Draw is set for Thursday! We have seen that these draws can play an enormous part in who wins the top prize. Palm Beach will be live streaming on Facebook the event that normally gets going around 11:30 A.M EST.
~Check our social media feeds all week as we post pictures of the Finalists & show historical videos/pics of previous St Pats Invitationals!
One Crazy Finish
I've seen some wild conclusions to a greyhound race, but this one might be the best I've seen all season long.
#6 L's Cori from the Koppe, Staats & Collins Team pulled off a miracle comeback that was right out of the March Madness playbook on Saturday night, as she came back from dead last to stun the Grade C field at the line. As you can see in the Win photo above, it was one crowded blanket finish!
Kennel owner Jerry Koppe has seen many exciting race finishes in his day, but even he was doing a double take after this one.
"I love watching that girl run," Koppe told me. "She has no rush to the turn, but then back side she brings it on home."

Palm Beach Back On The BARN!
Tuesday's BARN Show with our own Jason Beem will have some fabulous greyhound conversation, as Palm Beach Track announcer Mike Jameson & myself will be on to talk about the St Patrick's Day Invitational & the Triple Crown watch. This will be Jameson's first trip to the BARN and will be highly entertaining without a doubt. Make sure to check out the podcast that comes out on our feeds!
That's all we have for this week. We'll see you next time for the Wrap Up!
