Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 5-14-2017

May 15th, 2017

Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there, human and greyhound!  It was a week that crowned a new champion and saw a former champion become a mom highlighting the top stories we saw in the past 7 days.  Lets take a look at all the action we saw at "The Beach."

Big Upset On Mothers Day

One of my favorite races of the season took place on Sunday, as eight of the best females Palm Beach has to offer laced them up on Mothers Day for a chance at one magnificent pink blanket.

When the program came out, on paper it looked like Super C Martha from the Lester Raines Kennel out of the 8 hole was the clear cut choice.  But that's why they don't run these races on paper.

Hilco Diva from B & B Racing pulled the 14-1 stunner, surprisingly going box to wire for the 29.80 secs championship victory.  B & B also won this race in 2015 with Windy Maddie.

Congrats to the Diva and all her connections on the victory!

A Legend Becomes A Momma

Very exciting news came out of Abilene, Kansas this week, as the Henry Farm announced that former Palm Beach goddess JS SpeedyPebbles gave birth to a healthy litter of 6 puppies!  The sire is Dragon Fire, a two time stakes finalist and 2006 All-American at Bluffs Run and also finished up his career at Palm Beach back in 2007.

Pebbles who ran for the Koppe, Staats & Collins team had a memorable career that captured the worlds attention.  She won her first 8 races to set a new track record, won the 2014 Futurity and made numerous other stakes finals in her illustrious time as the "Queen of Palm Beach."

No news on the names of the newest greyhound additions yet, but we can expect these to be done in the next few months.

Pebbles helped to put my name on the map, as I was just starting my writing career back in 2014 for our company when she began her career in South FLA.  The attention she brought to our coverage and to the sport was unprecedented. I can never thank her enough. #PebblesNation is alive and well.

Can't wait to see these six bundles of joy at the track one day!

Miss Consistent

The "Fabulous One" was back doing what she does best on Saturday....winning races.

Frauelin Morgan from owner Monte Jacobs captured her 33rd win on the season in the Matinee finale, bolting to the front early and never looking back in an easy 38.30 secs.  Her box firing skills you just marvel at, as she almost always takes huge leads to start and doesn't let up until she's in the winners circle celebrating with her team.

She is now 48 out of 50 in the money this season.  You can look up any of the great greyhound athletes that have ever graced this sport and you wouldn't see lines like that.  The ability to win and to compete each and every time she starts is just remarkable. She's ran away with this track championship, with an insurmountable lead now of twelve after this win. An all time legend to say the very least.

Favorite Racing Jackets

A fun topic we came up with this week was all about the stylish jerseys that the greyhounds wear on game days.  We really enjoyed the response from the fans, who all have an opinion about the colorful jackets our favorite athletes wear in South Florida. Maybe its for gambling purposes why you love a certain jacket, or its one of your lucky numbers or you simply just can't get enough of how it looks.

Here's the link to the article if you missed it.  What's your favorite?

That's all we have for this week.  We'll see you next time for the Wrap Up!
