Palm Beach Weekly Wrap Up 6-4-2017
*Fraulein Morgan*
And people think this is the slow time of year for the sport.
One of the top middle distance superstars in the history of the Palm Beach Kennel Club called it a career this week. Along with a fantastic Memorial Day showdown and our Top 10 Rankings for May coming out, as always there was a lot going on with America's favorite greyhound destination.
Here is the top stories we saw from this past week at "The Beach."
Fraulein Morgan Retires
We knew the news was coming all year long, but it still is so dang hard to say goodbye and good luck to a mega superstar.
Fraulein Morgan from the Janie Carroll Kennel officially hung up her racing jersey on Sunday, as her team announced she was walking off into the sunset after one brilliant career. 56 career wins between Palm Beach and Hollywood and a ridiculous 33 romps this season clinched the Track Championship a long time ago for the "Fabulous One."
Owner Monte Jacobs said early on that Morgan would retire once she got close to her 4th birthday on July 20th and he kept his word. Jacobs told me that he has never had a dog that was as consistent as Morgan. That showed this year as she was in the money in 50 out of 53 starts and never even let the competition within sniffing distance in the season wins chase all year long.
"It's been a fun ride with her," Jacobs stated to us after announcing her retirement. "I'm excited to get her home to start her next career as a brood."
Home is in Claflin, Kansas where Morgan will be reunited with former teammate and track record holder Ethel Is Here as they both prepare to bring into the world the next generation of supreme greyhound talent.
The memories this year that Morgan brought to her team and the fans are the stuff of legends. Her epic battles with Janice Dean, her ability to grab the lead almost every time she started and of course, her 0.01 secs St Pats victory that may be the greatest performance in stakes finals history here.
What a beautifully unique looking hound too! That fiery red coat and the stoic poses she showed had fans around the world excited to watch and root for her.
As is our tradition when a legend retires like this, we will be showing our favorite Fraulein Morgan race videos all week long on our social media feeds.
No word yet on whether Morgan will be able to make it back to Palm Beach after the season ends to accept her Track Championship award.
Congrats to Morgan and her entire team on a career that was exceptional. Looking forward to the next generation of fabulous puppies to roll into South FLA in the very near future!
"Sweet" Run In The Memorial Day Showdown
Palm Beach knows how to celebrate a holiday and we saw again first hand last Monday.
Amf Sweet Pete from B & B Racing took home his first ever victory blanket by running down Blackjack Rolo for the win in 29.92 secs. A Palm Beach lifer, Pete put together a solid month of racing, scoring three Grade A's victories and securing a place in our Top 10 Rankings. Will he be running in the Fathers Day showdown coming up next weekend? That race will be revealed next Friday.

May Top 10 Rankings Revealed!
One of our favorite things to do here at BetAmerica is bringing out our Palm Beach Top 10 Rankings each month.
Fraulein Morgan remained at the top, with Super C Martha and Whirlin Toodlelu rounding out the first three selections. First timers Hi Noon Vortex, Dutch Amy Joe and Amf Sweet Pete graced us with their presence in our poll in what turned our to be a very competitive last month of racing.
With the season ending at the end of June, remember our last Top 10 Rankings will be for the most outstanding hounds we saw all year long at "The Beach."
Here is the May Top 10 Rankings if you missed it:
