Pick 3 play for Louisiana Premier Night at Delta Downs

February 7th, 2018

More than $1.1 million in purse money will be up for grabs Saturday night at Delta Downs when the track hosts its Louisiana Premier Night for state-breds. The 12-race card kicks off at 6:20 p.m. (EST).

The most interesting of the stakes might be the $120,000 Louisiana Premier Night Prince, a one-mile test for juveniles. Seemingly wide open on paper, it looks like a good spot to kick off a Pick 3 play.

Louisiana Premier Night Prince -- Race 7 -- #10 GRACIDA (5-2), the only Triple Crown nominee in the field, draws wide in his first appearance in his home state. Winning favorite in his Del Mar debut was smoked by Bolt d'Oro in the Del Mar Futurity (G1), and obviously faces lighter, yet more experienced, competition here. He's a full brother to Grade 1-winning Big World. Stakes-winning #8 GLADYOUSAWME (5-1) threw in a clunker in the Louisiana Futurity, but is responsible for two wins here for Brad Cox, who's been batting at or near 50% this meet. #6 BITSY'S AFLEET (15-1) steps up to stakes company after two easy wins at Fair Grounds on off tracks. Could be any kind. #2 DOUBLE STAR (8-1) showed noticeable improvement in his two-turn debut, just missing before getting disqualified in the $60,000 Big Drama, an open stakes.

Louisiana Premier Night Sprint -- Race 8 -- We'll take a stand against morning line favorite # 6 Monte Man and take a look at #7 JACK SNIPE'S (9-2), whose recent string of grass races, in which he blew hot and cold, overshadow decent one-turn dirt form. #8 LAUGHINGSAINT (10-1) ran like a horse who needed a race in the $50,000 Fremont last month, having not been out since July. Quick son of Songandaprayer frequently tough in non-restricted stakes earlier in his career. #5 FORERUN (4-1) is cross-entered in a starter stakes earlier in the card. Will take some catching if he goes here.

Louisiana Premier Night Classic -- Race 9 -- #6 MOBILE BAY (9-5) clearly the one to beat in this title defense. Has raced just once since taking this last year, winning the Louisiana Champions Day Classic by a nose off a 10-month layoff in December. Third in that heat was #2 UNDERPRESSURE (3-1), whose best days may still lie ahead. He's three-for-five over this track.

Here's the $1 ticket: 2,6,8,10 with 5,7,8 with 2,6 = $24
