Player Quick Pick: Aqueduct for 12/13/2014
With the rains finally receding, a fast track is expected at the Big A on Saturday. The feature, the Queen County Stakes, is a non-graded race that has attracted such big names as Vyjack and Micromanage.

6 – Stormin Monarcho – 3/1 – This gelding trained by David Jacobsen and sired by Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos, has won 3 out of his last 4 races. He actually has a fantastic record of 9 wins, 7 second place and 3 third place finishes from 28 starts. He seems well suited for this race since he could sit behind a fast pace set by Mircomanage, Plainview and Percussion before taking the lead around the return and then running home to the finish line first. Stormin Monarcho has a victory and 2 second place finishes from 4 starts at the distance. Jacobsen has been his usual stellar self at Aqueduct with a 24-26-11 record from 87 starters at the meet. Jacobsen also excels with horses in non-graded stakes, 21% winners, and horses that won their last race, 25% winners. The second choice on the morning line looks very formidable in this spot.
5-Vyjack – 5/2 – The Rudy Rodriguez trainee went off at about 4 to 1 to 5 to 1 in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile, but never got into the race and ended up finishing eighth by 8.75 lengths. The soon to be millionaire, Vyjack has won over $917,000, should find the going much easier in this 1 1/8 mile non-graded stakes. Plus, the track was playing awfully fast on Cigar Mile day while the rain this past week has appeared to slow it down some. Vyjack has a very good 6 wins from 15 starts record and 1 1/8 miles might be perfect for the gelding. The horse’s class is unquestioned while Rodriguez hasn’t got as hot as he usually does at Aqueduct, meaning that it is only a matter of time before he does. Jockey Irad Oritz, Jr. is winning at 20% at the meet. There are a lot of things to like about the chalk in the feature at Aqueduct on Saturday.
9-Wealth To Me – 15/1 – Sure, there appears to be much more classier animals in this, like the entry of Micromanage and Misconnect, but the other David Jacobsen trainee is in excellent form and excellent form will sometimes make a horse run well above what many think its class level should be. Wealth To Me goes into this off of a $40,000 claiming race where the seven-year-old gelding beat a decent field for the level by 2.5 lengths. That race was at a 1-1/16 miles in the slop over Aqueduct’s main track. This is a very different race with much better competition, but Jacobsen excels with these types and this is not a graded stakes, meaning that the competition isn’t nearly as difficult as it could be. The Tapit sired gelding has a good style for this race. Breaking out of post-positon 10 will hurt his chances, but jockey Angel Cruz and Jacobsen has hooked up for 4 wins, 4 second place finishes and 3 third place finishes from 16 starters in only the last 14 days. Use the long shot that figures in the eighth at Aqueduct on Saturday.
