Playing Saturday’s All-Stakes Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park

An extremely competitive edition of the Ft. Lauderdale (G2) anchors Saturday’s All-Stakes Pick 4 at Gulfstream Park. Here are my thoughts on the sequence: Rampart (G3) Electric Forest (#1) will take some beating for Chad Brown but I’m not keen on her rail post for the one-turn mile event. Tweeting (#2) also merits respect for Jorge Navarro, but Tequilita (#5) is my top choice. The hard-hitting four-year-old filly will make her 15^th consecutive stakes start, recording three wins including last year’s seven-furlong Forward Gal (G2) at Gulfstream, and Tequilita (6-1 morning line) exits a solid runner-up effort behind a heavily-favored wire-to-wire winner. She should receive an ideal set-up with five front-runners entered and likes the track. Michael Matz trainee shows a bullet work in preparation. My Charmer (G3) A full field of 14 will contest the one-mile turf affair and Bellavais (#1) appears formidable, smartly winning her first start for new conditioner Todd Pletcher at Belmont Park. The Tapit filly earned her first stakes victory in last year’s Ginger Brew at Gulfstream, but I’m tabbing stablemate Cherry Lodge (#7) for the upset. Listed 12-1, the four-year-old exits a game allowance tally at Keeneland, a race she needed following a 10-month hiatus, and Bernardini filly should handle the stretch out to a mile. Cherry Lodge ran well over the Gulfstream turf last January and should be a forward factor under Jose Ortiz. I’ll use both Pletcher runners on Pick 4 tickets. Sugar Swirl (G3) Little separates the more experienced rivals and Dream Pauline (#7) can earn her first stakes win. An impressive scorer in her first two starts, the Tapit filly broke slowly and was caught in traffic before finishing a respectable third in her November 4 stakes bow. Look for significant improvement off that effort. Ft. Lauderdale Divisidero (#10) ran a big race in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), racing wide throughout before missing by less than a length in fourth, and appears to be rounding into top form for the dangerous Kelly Rubley. The multiple Grade 1 winner is better at today’s 1 1/8-mile distance and an enticing 6-1 on the morning line. I like Divisidero’s chances in this difficult spot but for multi-race purposes, a case can be made for Projected (#3), Qurbaan (#4), Almanaar (#7), Mr Havercamp (#9), Zulu Alpha (#12) and Inspector Lynley (#14). Pick 4 (races 8-11) Dream Pauline will be singled and I’m two-deep with Bellavais and Cherry Lodge in the second leg.
