Presque Isle Downs: Horse racing pick of the day for Oct. 20
Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Tuesday, Oct. 20
Presque Isle Downs, Race 5: Maiden special weight (1 mile and 70 yards on Tapeta, 6:25 p.m. ET)
#9 Lowcountry (5-2 on the morning line) is the logical choice to prevail. A Godolphin homebred trained by Michael Stidham, Lowcountry faded to finish seventh in her debut at Belmont Park, but that start was on turf and against tough competition.
The 71 Brisnet Speed rating she posted equals the par winning figure for Tuesday’s class and distance at Presque Isle, so tackling the Tapeta might be all Lowcountry needs to prevail under leading jockey Pablo Morales.

But #2 Royal Oasis (8-1) is worth considering as a longshot. An unraced daughter of Treasure Beach, Royal Oasis was produced by the West Acre mare What a Lady, who has already foaled seven winners from eight starters.
Royal Oasis also brings a solid work tab to her first start, and trainer Kevin Rice strikes at a 38% rate with runners debuting at a mile or longer.
Let’s key Lowcountry and Royal Oasis with “ALL” in the trifecta.
$1 trifecta: 2,9 with 2,9 with ALL ($16)
$1 trifecta: 2,9 with ALL with 2,9 ($16)
Total: $32
Good luck!
