Profit Perspective For Quartet Of Tracks With Power Plays; Across-The-Board Features Aim High In Prices
Here is the penultimate preview blog of 2018 as our winter campaign for profits ensues with selected features and Power Plays, including horses we have been pinpointing for positive trips. The options for high-paying contenders are never certain (we have lots of readers using them in many pools), but as our history reveals, we do all right in the payoff department.
TwinSpires harness blog’s exclusive horses-to-watch (H2W) list helps you explore any and all combination exotic bets as well as win, place and show for use at your discretion. Always do your own handicapping and then consider any and all our H2W selections.
POWER PLAYS
Pompano/ Races 7, 8
Thursday, Dec. 20
Here’s a combo Power Plays deal, with the Late Daily Double and single-race exotics (exacta, trifecta, superfecta) in each leg at Pompano. The suggested contenders are mentioned in post-position order.
Race 7
Roundtable is a horse we have been watching after two fine performances. On the brink of turning four, he shows up in this compendium of non-winners with a morning line (ML) of 12-1 where he secures a strong contenders spot for price and purpose.
All Net came south for the winter assisted by a decent bankroll from place and show finishes in Ohio. The gelding, about to turn three, has one easy roll in Florida after the ship and from the looks of the last few he went at Dayton, did not need to show some of the power he is capable of displaying around this class.
Jay Jay is one of two ML favorites and has the class to support that badge. He was lightly raced, though going in some of Pompano’s higher-pursed events and cashing checks. He should be in the mix though he will be bet heavily.
The price of a winning exotic will be petty if the ML favorite, Mister Special T, wins. He is the only winning horse in the field and he gets crowd-favorite driver Hennessey for his fans to use as extra evidence for favoritism (any driver at Pompano could get the best from this horse, no less improve the probable price, but that is not how this sport works). The best possible scenario for a bettor is to keep this one out of the top two spots but use him for third or fourth in appropriate exotics.
Race 8
Charlie Call Home is forgiven for his November defeat at Saratoga. He is in warm and fertile territory now and is able to win this. If not, he will certainly contribute to the three exotics available.
Virgin Chaser’s win streak was broken last out mostly due to a tough outside start and journey. He was the favorite and now is not, leaving his price negotiable and important to good exotic payoffs here.
Bobs Fella just missed last out. His Indiana resume is wonderful; it encourages his placement in exotics and no one will argue a win bet on him based on it either.
Casey Hanover is such a strong contender that Hennessey appears to have chosen to guide him over Virgin Chaser. Here, though, Hennessey does not help the price but is a probable co-star of exotic plays.
POWER PLAYS
Meadows/ Races 3,4,5
Friday, Dec. 21
A 50-cent Pick 3, exacta, trifecta and superfecta are featured in this afternoon Power Plays triptych. The suggested contenders are mentioned in post-position order.
Race 3
Starmaker found a path to pace and went at it, finishing third at 54-1 and is in his best spot to do better than in most of his 2018 races. Hit It Maestro is not a proven loser with only four starts and raced well in all of them. Bikini Tina raced well here for a new trainer and could very well be in the mix. ML-favorite Lenonaideshine is the obvious one to beat, which hopefully is done, but he should be added in the long exotics.
Race 4
This is leg one of a Pick 4 and only offers an exacta and trifecta. What A Hunk goes for the second time in this class and may not be short this time at a better price than last time. Levitation was eliminated in traffic last time and drops into a more appropriate class where he could do what he did in Philly three back. Penniman looks better here that do the first two ML choices. He should pump up the exotics even if he does not win.
Race 5
The three single-race exotics are available. Our choices are all on the outside starting with post 5, Black Ruby. This filly has a strong shot to be one of the exotic members in this, her fourth race since leaving Ohio. Boniello’s last race is forgiven, as she got buried in the thick of battle. Here she should race like the two before that, putting her on the toteboard. Imasharktoo just won at this level as the favorite. She will be a better price here and may not be supported as well as she has been since leaving Indiana. Art Of Norma goes for her fourth-straight win—a must in exotics and most likely a better price than last time.

Saturday, Dec. 22
Quadra Folium comes back from finishing fourth in a Powers Play (PP) combo on Dec. 15. She was 87-1, odds that predict she should cover a four-turn mile watching the entire field. Instead, she was tied a hair for third, with the 129-1 shot completing the triple. Her trip was tougher than the longer shot, so she actually raced better than her forecasted chances. Her past-performance line in that race looks sad to many, since she finished third by 12 lengths. The winner (Mi Amada Juanita, a favorite we gave readers in the PP and who returns in this race) won by 6 1 1/2 lengths, so the dozen between “Quandra” was not so dire.
On the also-eligible list is another from our PP list, Roberts New Life. There is no telling if he will draw in or not and which entry would scratch to make it possible. He went off at 5-1 and suffered from an outside trip behind the early foot of a 44-1 shot. If he draws in, consider him for exotics.

Western Fair/Race 5
Saturday, Dec. 22
This is a you-call-it race due to a ML which we find unbalanced because we believe there are greater chances for some than are measured. It’s a claimer at a mile and those entries coming off 1 1/16-mile events are, in our opinion, underestimated. One of those is Maritime Girl. She was short in an extra-distance event after rolling to a one-mile, 4-length lead that would have won her the race at 32-1.
Wonwhitesockwoman drops is for sale less here than in her recent four claiming races. This time she could get the kind of trip she needs against softer company, so she need be considered, especially at her ML of 9-2.
Shanghai Noodle shuffles from claiming conditioner to claiming conditioner at various tags and makes the most of her journeys. She is better at a mile and is worth the tag here.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race. Types of wagering on any of the H2W listed horses are based on your judgment. If you have any questions, email us at TwinSpires.
