Freehold / Races 5, 6
Thursday / Jan. 23
Sheer Talent changed hands after his Jan. 16 conditioned pace performance. Sheer Talent finished fifth as the public’s third choice, beating the favorite by ½ length. Lisa Zabielski was the trainer then but in Race 5 today Bruce Lauer takes over Sheer Talent and sends him from post 1. Lauer should have a good meet and his acquisition of this pacer will add to any success.
Fat Boy likes Freehold, over the past two seasons, at least, and John Urbanski has already shown he has Fat Boy raring to trot in 2020’s Race 6. It is an even group in a decent conditioner but the crowd will probably make Nick Surick’s Boo Boo Baa Baa the favorite regardless of his 8 hole start, leaving a good price, even a fat one, per se, for us.

WALLYWORLD
Pompano / Races 2,3,4,7,8
Thursday / Jan. 23
We continue with our betting campaign at Pompano (Wallyworld) which backs all races on the program that include horses driven by local-hero Wally Hennessey Wally’s presence on a horse alone attracts dollars and that means smart bettors seeking value in horses’ odds look for overlays produced by chalk bettors favoring a driver over more important factors.
Race 2
Hurrikane Kingkong starts the 2020 season here and should be ready to start it big, certainly over Wally’s drive from post 1.
Race 3
In a short field the Wally factor will be stronger than ever, so toss out Wally’s drive. Money Earned has a great shot to win his first of the season here
Race 4
Silver Wings has won two of three for Joe Sanzeri and is in a perfect spot to win again, as the crowd hits their bankrolls for either of Wally’s choices to ride.
Race 7
No Hablo Ingles could lead the other six from gate to wire, leaving Wally in the smoke-burning bets.
Race 8
Royal Rex is the one Wallyworld-returning horse from last week’s list (the others appear on the H2W list) and looking positively brilliant from post 1.
POWER PLAYS
Miami / Race 12
Friday / Jan. 24
It is next to impossible to dismiss any horse on the Ohio harness circuit that is trained by Tim McCoy. His win percentage is sterling and often his lower-priced winners remain overlays considering it.
In this race, Tim’s Up Front Flor Ida makes her second appearance of 2020 and is sure to pounce on the nine others in this Fillies & Mares Open Handicap. It is also a perfect key for exotic action.
In league with Tim’s key, two others in the field could pump up the combo prices. Elysium Seelster has won already this meet and makes sense to partner in exotics with Tim’s key. Knockout Queen may go off better than her chances to make it on the toteboard—she’s as fast as the fastest in the field.
POWER PLAYS
Meadowlands / Race 2
Friday / Jan. 24
Here’s a shot to “bury the number” as we judge four candidates to engage in a 10-cent superfecta and a trifecta combo. We endorse them and urge players to play their combos multiple times.
Wisdom Tree is yet to post a 2020 win, but this event could change that. She stays at the Meadowlands after failing as a favorite at Yonkers and dropping a tad to finish third at a generous 11-1. Among the Dover Open horses she earned well just before she turned five.
Quite A Sight comes over the river from Yonkers. She qualified well in New Jersey and looks for her second straight. Jeff Cullipher’s mare has a better chance to make the totemboard than most will back.
Snobbytown may sneak into the combo, having a very good time of it at Yonkers, where she laughed at post 8, finishing third at 16-1 after a hat trick of winds.
Claimer Sandy Win aims to keep trainer Chuck Connor, Jr.’s great early season start in tact with earnings and should be a part of the combo, while Odds On St Lucie could take the tail end of the “super,” to keep the price strong, as well as it would keep her out of a trifecta with the other three getting the best of her.

Meadowlands / Race 3
Saturday / Jan. 25
This cheaper conditioned event could spark a few debates about a winner but we see a rather clear path for Sunshine West. The speed looks short, giving Sunshine West a few targets in the stretch. His recent two tries here found him on the grid late at this level, which he dropped into after some higher stakes in November and December.
This is the start of the Meadowlands’ lottery-like Survivor Pick 10 and though we find it a grab-bag endeavor, Sunshine West would be a strong start. Just do not pass a win bet so as to build a ladder to the moon, so to speak.

Meadowlands / Race 5
Saturday / Jan. 25
In his recent two races, Santafe’s Coach pushed his start with duels and though unsuccessful he was backed well and did better dropping into last week’s conditioned for trainer/driver Pat LaChance. The public may punish him this time but that leaves us with a better price than his chances suggest. A mild beginning or a clean sweep to the top can get this one home.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and confirm the wagers available at the prescribed track. H2W offers possible contenders researched from reviewing races. Horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track with the date of their race and the race number (R6 ) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name, it appears on the list for the second time (horses are listed twice only if, at first, they failed to win. An “ae” signals also-eligible. Types of wagers to make are based on your judgment.
