Public Pounces Perfectly In Adios; Fit Frosh Trotters Short On Prices; Hambo Sets Up Challenges For Fillies And Colts; $25 Top Winner For Week

Thursday, July 25 Hoosier’s Indiana Sires Stakes (INSS) for soph-colt trotters came in two divisions. An 11-1 shot took the first half, with our contender, Smooth Aceleration ($4.80) picking up the third spot. The second half of the INSS duo was won by the race favorite. We gave Hambletonian-eligible Sign Here N Here (53-1) one more chance to show the class expected but from the look of the public’s lack of interest he was not displaying any cash before leaving the gate. However, he finished fourth—not bad, though he won’t be traveling east next weekend. The Delaware-bred finals at Harrington were formful and the public benefited from it. We had only one winner in four events—and he wound up the favorite. That was Chillaxin Away ($5.20, $3.00, n/s). In the other three six-digit affairs we finished second with Dark Dutchess ($2.20, $2.20) who was beaten by the second favorite; fourth with Go Jetem (14-1), beaten by the public choice; and sixth with Roddys At It Again (7-2), beaten by the public’s choice. Friday, July 26 Two-year-old trotters surfaced at the Meadowlands racing for berths in next week’s Peter Haughton Memorial (colts) and James Doherty Memorial (fillies). Aside from a 9-1 winner among the filly division, the other four races were pegged by the public. We were less involved. In the “Haughton” we were third with Capricornus ($2.10) and fifth with Dublin (53-1). In the filly splits we were third with Word Of Honor ($3.40); sixth with a galloping Impressive Fashion (57-1) and sixth with She Must Be Magic (116-1). Those are not typos. The favorites in all of these events were hammered and the single two-digit winner for the fillies was given an effortless trip compared to the public choice. Saturday, July 27 At the Meadows, the features were unable to satisfy bettors searching outside of the majority’s opinions. Heavy favorites ruled in the Adioo for fillies and the Adios for colts. There was a pair of pace divisions for the fillies. The top choice won the first Adioo, while we finished third with Odds On St Lucie ($3.20). The second choice beat the first choice, our main contender, Warawee Ubeat ($3.40, $2.80) in the other Adioo split. Our exotic probable, Alli Nui (66-1) finished sixth. The main event, the Adios, was thought by many to be a good betting race. Wrong again, as the public emptied its pockets for one horse and that horse won easily. We were all over Branquinho (46-1) and partially with Stag Party ($3.80), finishing sixth and third, respectively. HAMBLETONIAN TRAIL The field is set for next week’s Hambletonian Oaks at the Meadowlands. In the eliminations. The first five from each elim will draw the final field. In the first contest, we wound up with the favorite and won with Millies Possesion ($3.60, $2.40, $2.20). Well-supported but disappointing was Cloud Nine Fashion (8-5), our choice in round two. She finished off the board. Colts still prepping for next week raced in a pair of New York Sires Stakes (NYSS) at Yonkers. Our choice, also the crowd’s choice, was Hambo-eligible Cavill Hanover. However, the colt was unable to maintain a lead and finished well off the grid. In the second NYSS, the huge favorite won, while our choice, Jason’s Camden ($3.40, $2.60) closed the exacta at $5.70. The W.N. Reynolds featured a number of #Hambo19 eligible colts. Our choice, Mr. Vicktor (9-2) broke making an early move and was eliminated. A 9-2 shot won. H2W LIST RESULTS The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Also, exactas listed are included when a H2W horse finishes second with a race favorite or the first two finishers making up the exacta are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses were listed to complete a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices published are correct even when a show price exceeds a place price or any or all of the prices are the same. This week, there were 47 active horses (a 19-percent win hit rate and a 40-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate). Time to put his flat-bet profit (FBP) value to the test. Tim’s five winning horses’ prices totaled $28.40. He lost four races. His highest paying winner returned $9.80. Two of his scores were puny--$2.60, $2.40. A player investing $2.00 to win on each of Tim’s drives, using the driver as the sole handicapping factor, received a profit of $10.40. That is a wonderful profit for no work at all. Unfortunately, Tim is a driver wagered upon often, and his average price on this program, which was $5.68, is not good enough to produce a long-term FBP. The 2018-2019 harness meeting at the Meadowlands is winding down. As of this posting, all that is left are programs on Friday, Aug. 2 with a post time of 7:15 p.m. and the final card of the meeting, the first Saturday of the month, Aug. 3, which features the stakes-filled program highlighted by the Hambletonian events for colts and fillies. Officials with Yonkers Raceway announced the track has made a change to its live racing schedule. The track’s Friday, Aug. 16 race date has been eliminated and a date set for Friday, Oct. 11 has been added. The Oct. 11 date will feature a first-race post time of 6:50 p.m. The change accommodates a Kool & the Gang concert that will take place on the track apron.
