Kathy Ritvo is orchestrating quite the turnaround during the current championship meet at Gulfstream Park. Best known for training 2013 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner and $5.6 million earner Mucho Macho Man, Ritvo has won 5-of-16 starts (31%) this winter.

Compare those numbers to her 3-for-34 record (9% win) during the 2018-19 Championship Meet. Ritvo won only 10 races from 116 starts (9%) in 2019.

She’s been sizzling of late. Ritvo enters Thursday’s 10-race program at Gulfstream with four wins in her last six starts. That includes Joyous Times, who scored at 19-1 odds on Jan. 8. Ritvo even sent out the top two finishers in a Dec. 26 race.

Frosted Grace, Ritvo’s lone entrant on Thursday, will try to continue the hot streak. Listed as the 5-2 second choice among six runners in a 6 ½-furlong allowance, Frosted Grace exits a third-place finish at the same level on Dec. 8. Luis Saez, who has won 2-of-5 starts for Ritvo this meet, picks up the mount.
