Santa Anita Race 8: Senator Ken Maddy (G3, 7:37 p.m. ET)

#5 Magic At Midnight (9-5) looks tough to beat for trainer Mark Glatt, who strikes at a 21% rate in graded stakes races. The daughter on Midnight Lute is undefeated in four starts, posting sharp Brisnet Speed ratings in the 93-98 range while dominating her rivals in front-running fashion.

Magic At Midnight was particularly impressive in a 5-furlong turf allowance race during the summer at Del Mar, leading all the way to score by 2 3/4 lengths. With her excellent early speed and sharp recent workouts, Magic At Midnight figures to secure the lead on Sunday and never look back.

#1 Jo Jo Air (5-2), winner of the 5-furlong Daisycutter H. at Del Mar, can round out the exacta for high-percentage trainer Wesley Ward. We’ll draw a line through her recent sixth-place effort in the The Very One S. at Pimlico since she was forced to race off the pace over a yielding course.

Santa Anita Race 9: Goldikova (G2, 7:30 p.m. ET)

#2 Maxim Rate (8-5) warrants respect after battling to a runner-up effort in the 1 1/4-mile Rodeo Drive (G1) at Santa Anita, but cutting back to a flat mile for the Goldikova could potentially lend an advantage to the speedy #3 Raymundos Secret (9-5).

A 4-year-old daughter of Treasure Beach, Raymundos Secret has shown significant improvement under the care of trainer Philip D’Amato this season. After returning from a 10-month layoff to win a 1-mile allowance race at Del Mar, Raymundos Secret led all the way in the 1 1/8-mile John C. Mabee (G2) over the same course, hanging on to score by a neck against Grade 1 winner Lady Prancealot.

D’Amato and jockey Flavien Prat have been on fire at Santa Anita, compiling win rates of 22% and 29%, respectively. Together they’ve gone 4-for-11 (36%) over the last 60 days, so if Raymundos Secret shakes loose up front, she may prove impossible to catch.
