Selections for Canadian and Bison City Stakes at Woodbine

September 11th, 2020

The C$1 million Queen’s Plate highlights a fine 13-race card at Woodbine on Saturday that features five stakes events. I have selected a pair of stakes on the undercard that are of particular interest to me.

Canadian (G2)

A field of 10 fillies and mares will travel 9 furlongs in the turf affair. It’s hard to look past two-time Grade 1 heroine #10 Cambier Parc (6-5) for Chad Brown. Medaglia d’Oro filly concluded her 3-year-old campaign with tallies in the Del Mar Oaks (G1) and Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1) while showing a different running style on each occasion. Bay has been showing positive morning drills since mid-July and should be ready to roll with top local pilot Hernandez in the stirrups.

I have long liked #6 Amalfi Coast (6-1) and will play her underneath in my vertical exotics. Attard pupil is a dual winner on the course, and the daughter of Tapizar had a very good recent prep when a close third going seven-eighths on the main surface here. Justin Stein will guide the late-running chestnut.

Wagers

  • $20 Exacta: 10 with 6 ($20)
  • $2 Trifecta: 10 with 6 with all ($16)

Bison City S.

Sophomore fillies will go 1 1/16 miles on the main strip in a race that attracted eight. I think the Roger Attfield-trained #8 Gun Society (10-1) is a very generous price on the morning line and worth a play. Society’s Chairman lass ran a good one on the green with blinkers added last time out, and her pair of bullet drills since indicate that she is responding to the equipment change.

Ontario-bred chestnut is a stakes winner on the surface, and she will be running them down late under the guidance of Kimura.

#2 Afleet Katherine (4-5) ran a fine second in the recent Woodbine Oaks and is a must use. Kevin Attard charge will be super tough with anything resembling her most recent endeavor.

Wagers

  • $20 Win: #8 Gun Society ($20)
  • $10 Exacta Box: 2-8 ($20)
  • $1 Trifecta: 2,8 with 2,8 with all ($12)
