Single- Multi-Race Action On Tap; Short List Looms Boldly; Cashing Attack On Feature Prices
March storms onto the 2019 racing scene. We are hell-bent to offer the promise of profits for all kinds of wagers on the brink of the season’s traditional stakes series at Yonkers.
Along with serious opportunities for across-the-board and exotics action, our H2W (horses-to-watch) list is a parade of possibilities. There are valuable favorites and double-digit outsiders for any wagers you target. Consult the H2W for all of your harness action.
POWER PLAYS
Saratoga / Races 1,2,3,4,5
Thursday, March 7
Early March afternoons digging into Saratoga has become a challenging tradition at this blog. We are undaunted in our search to beat the obvious, well-supported steeds in any kind of wager on the New York half-mile track. Favorites spoil our attempts regularly but when we strike, it counts. Here, then, is another a five-race analysis with single- and multiple-race exotics aimed at short-circuiting the toteboad.
The exotic targets for us include the Daily Double (races 1 and 2), exactas and triples (all five races), a Pick 3 (races 3 to 5) and a Pick 5 (races 1-5).
Race 1
From last week’s H2W, you could smash the Pick-5 open among the wagers available with Xenia Onatopp. Huge odds are expected, as she leaves from post 8 in her second race since turning three. She shipped in from Hoosier and had the race she needed, losing at 18-1 last week. Her new connections are serious about her soph campaign and an upset here, if not a great performance to hit the exotic blends, should be expected.
From post 7, consider in your cast of exotics, Lady Elvis. She has been on the brink of stepping out of this class in her last two, adding many supporters last time.
Race 2
All Speed Rising cannot be penalized for finishing off the board in her recent two at Saratoga. She was game last time, finishing fourth, closing well. The race before that is easily tossed. In December she won big at this level at 3-1. A good price here is almost guaranteed.
Race 3
This Pick 3 shows promise to start with a good winning price for The Time To Win. Stepping to this level last week, The Time To Win maintained smart feet after dueling early and settling for second before gaining more ground and losing by ½ length.
Race 4
A certain threat to the obvious favorite in this mile is Aggressive (that is his name as well as his racing style). Last week at 8-1, Aggressive dueled to get the lead and soared away by 3 lengths. But the surge cost him and he was short by 5 ¼ lengths at the wire. Stepping up here is a huge positive. He could sweep this field.
Race 5
If you are Pick-3 or Pick-5 alive at this point you will be happy and poised to cash because the morning-line (ML) choice looks like a charm to win this. Open Table came from Monticello and parked here to race well parked here. Her first two at Saratoga are strong trips using outland journeys with aplomb.
She’s My Rock should have aim at an exotic position but can also find a ground-saving spot to get on the ticket. She steps back into a spot where she has cashed among foes as weak as these.

Miami / Races 1, 9
Friday, March 8
We are not quite done cashing in on “The Short List” at the Miami Valley meet. Here are two more selections from our Adam Short trainer-watch report, an exclusive dossier following the track’s high-percentage-winning conditioner. Short has two horses in this program that deserve attention in all betting pools.
Race 1
One of our first selected feature choices this season was Miss Meeko. We were high on her in January when she was listed to race at Northfield. She scratched from that race only to show up at Miami, trained then by Jim Pollock, Jr. At 7-1 she raced well enough to finish fifth. She returns in this race under the supervision of Short and becomes our solo choice.
Race 9
Mosee Terror failed last week as the favorite for Adam. She finished fourth to a 51-1 shot winner who got the best of her strong but long trip. Mosee Terror spent too much time in the second tier, having to submit to a three-wide move at three-quarters which was costly. She finished well and gets another chance, this time offering a bit more to gain from supporting her.

Yonkers / Race 6
Friday, March 8
Write Me A Song qualified on March 1, making the appropriate speed level and racing well among fellow pacers. Though he finished fourth, he raced in third from start until the stretch, where he gained lengths but lost position.
Trained by prolific percentage-winner Lance Hudson, Write Me A Song will be an outsider in the pools, considering the brand names of some foes. Ron Burke sends Lakeisha Hall to post for the first time this season. Bettors will recognize her from last year and they always recognize any horse in the Burke brigade. Lispatty won last week and will be supported again here. Even the 8 horse, Itty Bitty, will attract handicappers.
Write Me A Song is a bet that takes a leap of faith but will reward if she embraces her new season early.

Meadowlands / Race 6
Saturday, March 9
But for a few inches, Griffon Hanover was an exotic element last week in our Power Plays, just about losing the fifth spot in the Hi-5. At 16-1 he dropped into this class, drew the 9 hold and did his best. The win was moot, it went to the favorite in that race but tonight he gets the rail at the same level and should show the edge.
Also from that race and getting more support than “Griffon,” is Solo Story. He raced badly against Griffon but cannot be dismissed due to it. Trainer Jeffrey Weiner is winning at a huge rate, which is benefiting driver Dexter Dunn this meet. These two could very well be the essential elements of the exacta, as well as each could beat the other for the top spot.
H2W Legend
Review our choices and follow the wagering at the prescribed track. These are possible contenders we have judged from reviewing races. The horses’ names are listed beneath the name of the track after the date they will be racing. The race in which they are entered (R and race number) follows. If a + is in front of a horse’s name it means it is appearing on the list for the second (and last) time because it failed to win the first time it appeared. An “ae” signals the horse is entered on the also-eligible list. If a horse is listed twice, refer to the entries on the night of the race since a horse may enter in more than one race. Types of wagering on any of the H2W listed horses are based on your judgment. If you have any questions, email us at TwinSpires.
